Thinking of selling up
Well I think I've got to the point where I've lost the will to carry on with the build. Its been 2 1/2 years now and I've pretty
much run out of money. I may consider stelling all the spare bits instead if they are worth enough on their own.
I havn't got round to photos yet, but that will probably come next when I get the will power up.
I'm after sort of rough estimate on what the following would be worth:
At the moment it needs the exhaust sorting (I bought a GBS exhaust but pipe 4 fouls on the body work (sending a small 5cm area black). I've
tried to cut and modify the exhaust but with no practical luck so down pipe #4 needs replacing.
At the moment from what I can tell all that needs doing is the exhaust, wheel alighnment and check radiused surfaces prior to IVA. I was planning to
get it in for its IVA in Dec/Jan, but financial constraints would put that off for me for at least 6 months.
The body work is red, but I've sprayed the wings BMW Cosmic black. Its got an areo screen (like the MNR style) in black.
MK Delux kit (bought for £2800 approx) powder coated chassis. Pinto 2.0 engine, type 9 box. Unused discs front, drums rear, 3.6(?) ratio diff with
push in shafts.
The sump and rocker box cover are modified as per normal. Silicone hoses to a new GBS rad (MK2 escort IIRC). MK Ally tank, An Acewell dash. MK prop
shaft. I've still got the VIN plates, V5 for the donor (87) too.
In addition I've got the following spares:
2.0 engine, type 9 box, MK rad (the MK2 with the pressue cap blanked off), a 1.8 engine, 2 spare cylinder heads (due to stupid ebay purchases). The
following end cans (as I've been strugging getting the noise down): GBS straight through, R1, Bandit 1200. In addition to the alloy wheels
fitted I've got 5 spare pepper pots (I need of a respray). Spare of MK engine mounts, a pair of nicely painted Sierra engine mounts, spare front
hubs and brakes. Probably about 3 spare master cylinders. (Proably enough sierra bits to provide the front half of a donor pack, bar the rear end).
Rally Design Type 9 gear extension unit (fitted once, didn't like posiiton, took it off, another 60 quid wee'ed at the wind).

Sounds like your close to finishing.. It will be worth a lot less without IVA.. Like above give it a rest for a bit it's not a race..
Felt like selling up but glad I pushed on..

i'm on year 9 (or maybe 8 if a spreadsheet i found last week is correct).
don't give up if you've got hte space. Come back to it in a few months (preferably when its starting to get warmer) and carry on.

Hi
Don't sell it, as above walk away and leave it for a bit.
Or at worst
Flog all those spares you don't need.
Use the dosh raised to get it / have it finished and tested.
If you then decide you want to move on to pastures new (you won't once you've driven it ) you'll at least get a realistic amount
of money for it.

Yeah, I think I'll try and sell the spares first and go to Mr Tyre on Tuesday to see if they can weld in a new exhaust tube and see where I go
from there.
I think its getting to the point were I spend at least half my time thinking "sod it" and every time I think of the hassle of going
through the DVLA process I just think of giving up .
I've considered storage for a few months, but I seem to be spending a lot of time doing that so far.
I've now got the side pannels back on ,after skinning the body in ally to prevent water ingress and hopefully absorb some noise for the IVA.
I've tried sitting in it for inspriation, but it don't help that I think I'm now a little too wide (as my hip bones feel like they
are a bit jammed in) and the foot well is starting to give me an unnerving feeling of claustraphobia.
The real pain is that I sussed out my stainless welding problem (I needed to turn the wire speed down to just over 1/3 as its .8 wire and not to use
Halfords Argon/CO2 mix as there is too much CO2 in it). The to cap it all off, I ran out of stainless wire at this point.

Im hopefully coming to the end of my 6.5 year build soon. Its been a complete rollacoaster of a ride. Sometime ill have enough money but ill be at
university or i just wont have enough time from summer jobs. Or when i do have time during the holidays ill have no money and wont really be able to
do anything... Ive made do and got things going over but ive come close to quitting a number of times in the last year especially. All i do is take a
few months off. I took 6 months off from april after a mamouth effort to try and get it past SVA.
IVA is very soon and even though I think it will probably fail (my pessimistic nature) Im so glad ive got to this point. If it fails ill take another
month off and then crack on with it. The times you take off also allow you to recoup some money!
Cheers
