Gears, clutch
Went out for blast yesterday and today with weather being quite nice.
As ive only had the car for a couple of months and not having had a bec before or having never ridden a bike before the gears were a bit hard getting
used to and ive somtimes missed 2nd coming through gate and badly revved it but today its missed 3rd and i had to pull it in to gear and the noise was
bad well now its a struggle getting it into 3rd and 4th but not coming done the gears.
Please tell me the worst.

Worst:
Knakered linkage, Broken gears and bent selectors overrevved and new engine needed.
Best: badly adjusted clutch, further practice needed.
Reality:somewhere beween the two?

Check the linkage is nice and tight. I had all sorts of problems, and assumed I had fried it (identical circumstances to yours, no experience of what
I should do or how it should feel). It turned out that the gear lever mounting was floating around.
I don't think you can over-rev it by missing a gear as the rev-limiter will come in. You can over-rev by dropping down too far (i.e. into
first). In reality I think this is quite difficult to do (at least on the road) as the ratios are all quite close on most bike engines, and the
rev-limits are so high.
Different bike engines have different strengths and weaknesses in the gearbox department. It is claimed by the bikery. chaps that GSXR1100 2nd gears
are made of cheese, but it must be pretty sturdy cheddar as mine is holding up nicely.
I hope it turns out to be something little (and cheap).

Are you doing clutchless changes up? Are you revving it enough?
What doesnt work, does the lever feel stiff to move ?
You mention missing gears, I suspect that you may have bent selectors as the clutch should not need to be used to get clean changes 3-4-5-6.
Is it cable or rod linkage?
Does it feel ok if you move the lever at the engine end by hand?
Come on guys, somebody from Durham help me out and pop round
PS bad karma about the sump plug, you must have been well pissed!

You're gonna need to post up a pcture of your new toy anyway.
Would be a strange thing to do to deliberatly sell it with a loose plug, unless it was to cover up an issue or a genuine mistake through a pre-sale
oil change?
Did anyone say welcome aboard?
I can't picture this sound, but I'm stilll guessing gear selectors. What was the history of tyhe new engine, had it already been in a car?

Thanx for welcome
Ive tried to post a picture but can't do it.
I also think its the gear selectors too from me crunching and ramming it into gear at about 30 when it went into neutral

did you keep the old engine, if so you might be able to change the gear box components over, should only be a case of removing side covers and then
splitting the bottom end, should be back on the road in 1/2 day
tony
welcome by the way

Try shifting from 2nd gear through to 6th without using the clutch at all and see if there's a noticeable difference. BEC's don't
require use of the clutch for upshifts provided you're accelerating and back off when you shift gear.
Accelerate moderately hard, back off the gas at about 5,000rpm and give the lever a swift but firm push/pull to engage next gear. Once you've
got the hang of clutchless upshifts you'll find they're so much smoother and almost seamless that you'll never use the clutch again
for shifting up between 2nd and 6th.
Always use the clutch for downshifts unless you're really confident you can do them clutchless.

Right Ive been out in the car today took it over to my mates for him to have a look,
Well changing into 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th still had that funny noise but went in ok.
it slipped a bit in 5th and 6th.
When my mate looked at clutch cable he said it was a bit slack but what hes noticed is that the position of (wear the clutch cable is on the engine)
(dont know whats called ) is not going fully back hes says its like your only using half the clutch, is this because the clutch is on its way out ?

Did you perform clutchless upshifts and if so, was the same noise present?
You mention clutch slip. Have you uprated your clutch springs or are they standard springs?

I managed to do clutchless shifts ,4,5,6th gears going up and it did seem better.
All I know is its got Barnetts springs in it or so last owner said so and he gave me a new pack for spares.
I am going to strip the clutch out and change it and springs while ive got the alloys off which Im getting refurbished and colour changed.
