Hot water question

While I'm on the bog in the morning, I turn the hot tap on (just a bit) to start the hot water coming through so there's no waiting around when I want to wash my hands. Then I though will this end up using more gas.

It's a hot water tank, let's say the pipe from tank to tap is 3m and un-insulated.

Would running a tap at half speed cause more heat loss than running it at full blast or is the difference negligable?

yes, it will use fractionally more gas, assuming you get your hands under the tap as soon as it runs warm. Much better would be to insulate the pipe, then you could do a quick blast to remove the cold water in the pipe and not have it cooling as it lingers.

Must say its a very small difference though, youd save more if you had a cooler or shorter shower!

Be a real man and wash your hands in cold water! It'll warm up as your washing.

It also keeps your pores closed.

If you wash the oily shizen off your hands in hot water, have you ever noticed in the
pub later your mitts look grubby again ?
That's the crap oozing back out of your pores.

You lied Edward!
It doesn't warm up at all, it just gets colder and for some reason the pain went up to my elbow!
