MK shortened rack

Has anyone had to re-tap the thread in the shortened MK steering rack, as i was screwing in the tie rods back into the the rack it stopped abount 2mm short of the end.

Has anyone else experienced this and had you recut the thread deeper ( if possible ) for a snug fit?

Thanks for your reply snoopy,

Its the thread that has been cut into the shortened half of the rack, there is only about 10mm of cut thread in it, but the original side has got at least 15-16mm in it.
so when i screwed the track rod in it stopped 2mm short of the stock of the ball joint.

Do you still feel i should cut some off of the thread of the track rod or tap the rack a bit further as it has loads of uncut space left in the hole

Cheers

Jason

Sounds cool to me

Any how, as you say yes it can be tapped a bit further, a friend of mine is machining my abs splines off the inner rear hubs, so i could get him to do it for me ( saves you guys the hassle ), would just need the correct thread dimensions for the tap to make things easier.

Thanks again snoopy, hopefully see you at the show on sunday.....

.....thats a point, bring the tap with you and i will bring the rack with me

All Sorted!!!

A friend of mine who works in a engineering company, machined the abs splines of the rear inner hubs & tapped the thread deeper in the rack.

All fitted now
