How long in yours
Hi, or Help,
Just offered up my dash to the scuttle and found that I cannot get 1st, 3rd ,5th as the gearleaver strikes the dash.
The dash is a 'D' shape rotated 90 anticlockwise with the gap between the bottom of the scuttle and the side of the chassis about an
2".
The Engine is ford 1.6chv. Gearbox is type 9(5speed). Engine in mounted as close to the bulk head as the bell housing will allow.
I have shortend the type 9 gear lever (hacked out the rubber bit) and also modified it to a quickshift. But still if I had a gaer nob fitted I'd
hit the dash before I got the gear.
Any suggestion or photos.
And of course How long is your gearlever?
The top of my Gearbox sits just (1/4) below the angled drop for the tunnel.
Hey if I can I'll try and post some photos.
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

You could try a gearshift extension - either buy one (see other posts for a clone of the Westfield one) or try making one... use the link below to go
to my website, click on the steering wheel, then 'special tools' from the left-hand menu, then 'Ford 5-speed gearbox
extension'. BTW - you'll need a lathe! No dimensions, but once you have a gearbox stripped and ready the dimensions become fairly
obvious.

Or bend the lever
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I bent mine and left a cut out in the dash.

mine was too far back so i bent it forwards. Quite easy to do and maintains an ok feel. I also bypassed the rubber bit that absorbs vibration.
