avo shockes help

hi guys i bough a set of avo suspension front and rears both are 13" open but springs two with thick springs and two with thin springs both springs 2.25" 9" but im struggling what load rate are they.brough them of ebay the seller saying that he used to be fitted on a cobra he dont know anything about them.
i dont know either i was wondering if any one to help me pls.
i am building a locost when i fitted the shockes with the thinner springs on the front looked ok to me when the engine on them but when i replaced them with the thicker springs the wishbones loocked too low with the engine on to.

pls advice thanks

or is it any other way to test the springs to find out what load rate? thanks

Take the springs out of the shocks, usually marked on the flat edge that faces the mounting plate.

You can measure the spring rate via the wire diameter, the number of coils and the spring's diameter.

130 090 are standard avo numbers, I think they dictate the open and closed lengths (ignoring bump stop). Check their website for clues.

If measuring and calculating are not to your tastes, then you could measure the length, put a heavy weight on the top and then measure the length again (weighing scales in a big vice could work too). The weight divided by the length-change is the relevant rate. Not sure how easy this is to do, but its cheap and will get you started.

Hi Matt ,this what i got to so far thinner springs wire diameter8.75mm the thicker 10.58mm and they both have 12 coil number ,thinner springs inside diameter 48.75mm.ill have a go on ur advice

Thanks guys ths spring load for the both set now identified as 160lb for the back and 300lb for the front is it the right set up with shocks 13" open and 9" closed ?thanks Alex
