Converting MS1 to MS2

Does anyone know of a definative guide on how to convert a MS1 V3 to MS2 V3?

I've already got the MS2 daughter board so is it just a case of swapping the chips and changing firmware?

Thanks

Ben

there is also a link wire you need to cut out. cant remember the exact one but if you dont cut it out it will blow up the new processor

edit... sorry its the other way round you need to add a 12v link wire but make sure you remove it if you go back to ms1 or you will blow the ms1 chip.

Cheers guys. I'd read about the 12v wire. Wasn't sure if there was anything else that needed doing.

Think that is the 12v feed jumper you install if you fit an optional IAC with the MS2.

You cut it out if you go back to using MS1.

However if you dont have an IAC then it is not an issue.

'Tis the other way round. With MS2 you get a driver chip on the daughter board for stepper motor idle valves. This needs 12V, which you provide by adding a link between 12V and one of the 40 pins on the main board's processor socket. IF you go back to MS1 for any reason, you must remove the 12V link or you will damage the MS1 processor.

Cheers R

Edit - waay too slow as usual.

I believe you can do without the 12V link but it makes the stepper motor driver run hot, so it is advised to add the link even if you don't intend using a stepper motor IAC.

If you bend the leg on the MS1 chip that would go to the new 12V input, then if you ever put it back in (unlikely in my mind) then you will not blow the chip.

There is a fair amount of retuning between MS1 and MS2, but it is well worth the effort.

All installed now... Seems to be connected to laptop etc. A lot more menus in TuneStudio now too, which i think is a good thing.

Coolant temperature setting is being a pain, seems i dont have the original bias resistors in my MS. Trying to work out their values. Does the colour bands on bias resistors mean the same valves as normal resistors? cant see any mention of them on the colour codes.

Ashg got it for me when he was over in america.

Straight from DIYAutoTune. I've had it a while now, so not sure on prices.

I ordered mine (around 3months ago) from Diyautotune. With the cheapest postage option it came to around £67, far cheaper than any uk supplier I could find at the time. Landed on the doormat about 10 days later IIRC, so no complaints from me on their price or service.

I did the same as Geoff.

The local UK chap who does megasquirt (James?) doesn't supply just the MS2 boards. It is too easy to blow them up (according to him) that he doesn't like to risk it.
