What network are you on?

On o2 you can just go onto their website stick in the phone code and they unlock it for free takes 2 or 3 days

Orange will unlock it for you -- istr but there is a £20 charge.

Also if you are a data user look at 3, Vodafone or a PAYG Orange

Orange PAYG are better value than their contracts if top up your credit by £10 per month go online to manage your account by buying data, txt and voice minute packs in advance from your credit.

i did ring orange to see it they could match tesco but they said they couldnt do which was a bit of a shock as been with them for 15 years, all they wanted to was sell me a new 4s and a 2 years contract

Orange monthly contracts are rubbish even SIM only but they are very good for PAYG.

No need to unlock O2 phone to use on Tesco. Tesco use O2 as their carrier so it should work fine. Certainly has for me in the past.

Orange should release the unlock free of charge if your contract has ended. Worth doing while they have your details on file.

Very strange because I got an iPhone a few years ago from O2 and then used a Tesco SIM after the O2 contract ran out and it was fine. I got it unlocked in the end to run on three but it worked on Tesco before that.

Oh well, good luck getting O2 to unlock it. Should be okay if you can convince them you are the rightful owner which shouldn't be a problem.

I've just rescently changed my O2 iPhone to run on GiffGaff which also uses the O2 network so possibly the same as Tesco.
The phone didn't need unlocking, popped the sim in and it showed signal etc and still the O2 and 3G icons, but there was quite a few setting that needed changing on the iPhone itself such as "mynumber" and where it looked and passwords for MMS, text and Internet servers.

Maybe Tesco's website has a guide for these settings or a look at the giffgaff ones might help.
