Type 9. 5 speed box I'm guessing Sieera diff.
It's a straight replacement if you have bolt on drive shafts, the only difference is internal on a Sierra viscous LSD
I have a 3.6. 7" diff bolt on LSD for sale @£150 as I now have. Quafe ATB ready to go in.

As said if its IRS and you've got a sierra diff, either a sierra LSD, or freelancer diff will fit but may need prop & drive shaft mods.

If its live axle then Quaife do an ATB diff (which I have in mine and is very good) and I think transX also do one. It maybe cheaper to wait for a complete axle with LSD to turn up on eBay than buy one separately (£600ish) and get it fitted (£250ish)

It has a live rear Axel
The rear wheels are somewhat offset even with spacers so would be god to have the sitting just right !

If anyone sees a axel with LSD for sale please let em know as i not sure what to be looking for

Thanks all for the help

You can get an extension turret from Rally Design. It's a good kit but some people have difficulty using the existing shifter with it so it may NBC worth getting their quick shifter kit as well.

Keep an eye here for complete axles. http://shop.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/searchresults?kw=English+axle+lsd&x=0&y=0&cmd=SKW

IF whatever axle you get doesn't already have them tou'll need to get brackets added for the trailing arms and link rod.

I was told it needs the gear linkage updating (poly bushed etc) would the above do that ?

Looks nice. Yes the turret extension is right. That quick shift will probably need to use the fork and bearing housing off the standard shifter (which you may not have), that is the poly bush kit though. The alternative is this http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=1360_339&products_id=2009

Don't be put off my it's length, very easy to cut down and turn/tap as required for your gear knob.

Yes the GTR is mine, an amazing car !
However, i got more positive attention driving the Locost yesterday

So extension turret and gear lever will give me positive gear changes as its vague currently but works fine - is it an easy job to fit both bits ?

First breakdown on the drive back after picking up the wife
Car started to pissed water out and steam so stopped.
No tools - thank god for pound shops !!!
Identified a split coolant hose with the help of a passer by. Knocked on doors to borrow a knife to cut the hose and reattached and after 20 minutes of scraping hands fixed.

Moral of story need to carry a set of screwdrivers and spanners at all times and welcome to kit car ownership !

Any ideas of workshops who can help with serving in surrey/ hampshire ?

Headlights are really poor - i there any way to make them more powerful and fuel tank is really small ? any ideas ?

Again thanks

It depends on access how easy a job it is. It is just 3 bolts on the gearbox, and then 3 on the turret. You need to remove the reverse detent from the gearbox, it just drifts out with engineering tool number 1. It may need refitting to the turret I can't remember.

Southways Automotive (website here are meant to be good and are in Hampshire, but they are very simple so any competent and trustworthy garage will be fine with it.

The headlights will never be amazing because they are so low, if they are incredibly dim then check they have a decent earth to the chassis. High intensity bulbs which you can get from Halfords will help, alternative carbuildersolutions do a projector headlight which may get more light on the road but they're expensive.

Are you certain you have an English axle currently fitted? To fit into a Locost extra mounting brackets have to be welded onto the axle, so you won't be able to swap the complete axles over if you get a standard axle with an LSD in it. However, an English axle has the entire diff mounted in a separate assembly which bolts to the main axle housing, so if you remove the driveshafts you can swap this over.

You need to find out where the excessive play in the steering is actually coming from. It could be worn track rod ends, worn steering rack or worn universal joints in the link between the steering column and the rack.

If the engine is pushing a lot of oil out of the catch tank then it's either worn (lots of combustion gasses escaping past the piston rings) or the breather system simply might not be very well thought out.

After a play today discovered it is the bush and additional bracket has been ordered along with a quickshift kit plus new headlight units with uprated bulbs.

Next is a service and inspection including brakes.

Then finally get the carbs tuned and see what power i am working with and get it on the track and see what sort of car i am really dealing with.

Does anyone know what the sizing of the front shocks is ? as i have a set of spax adjustable front shocks but no springs doh ! can i get springs cheap ? or just worth fitting new front shocks ?

Thanks for all the advice everyone

Had to take the GTR to a track day at Rockingham rather than the Locost

pinto's can be heavy breathers, and if the catch tank isn't connected up right it can make it even worse...
(there are a few old threads on here about the pest way to connect up the catch tank)

A quaife atb unit can be had for £460

Also, I've had mine fitted to my diff by a small company near Brands Hatch - they did it for me while I was at a test day at Brands with a mate:

It was well below £100 (can't remember how much)

I know one of the owners of Enginuity (I instruct his sons in Savate kickboxing).

http://www.enginuity.co.uk/

I believe they have a rolling road and know a fair bit about tuning carbs. They don't just do Triumphs!

As for shocks, if you really want the correct ones, once the engine is sorted, take it to Matt at Procomp. He will work it out properly, valve them for your weighed car and get you the correct setup.

Nice looking car btw.

Cheers,
James

Spoke to Procomp very nice guys - there opinion on a LSD is that you are then fixing a potential understeer problem that never existed before once you have an LSD fitted. Hopefully will get it out on the roads/ track soon and see how it handles and decide where to go from there. A new rear axle is required to make the wheels sit out further. So i can wait and see if a combo of axle and LSD come up together !.

I am not sure if these shocks will fit - cheap on flebay !
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200729358645

Also for more brake feel i can change for a smaller master cyclinder ? (fiat (will any off the list do ?) - as per the posting on here) - how big a job is this and is it a straight swap or is there modification required ?

Is this what i need ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Fiesta-MkII-1-0-1-6-XR2-Brake-Master-Cylinder-Lucas-74066420-/390399838000?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&has h=item5ae5a4c730

James - where in Surrey are you based ?

Found these guys for the Carb tuning as they are near my friends workshop where the car is currently
http://www.redlinecomponents.co.uk/

So have purchased a quick shift without the extension tunnel from RD ? is there any impact of doing this ?

Thanks again for the input

That's true, it will fix most understeer problems you might have:

The biggest real world 'on road' difference I found: being able to 'briskly' pull away at junctions with a lot of steering lock without having to patiently wait for the inside rear to stop spinning...

Will this listing on ebay be a good addition to my rear end as LSD and help move the rear wheels outwards more ?
