any recommendations on IT helpdesk software
Afternoon all,
Seeing as there are a few IT people on this forum, wondered if anyone can recommend some opensource php/mysql helpdesk software?
Need it for my department to basically log calls of work requested, how long it took, requestor, any problems etc. Don't want anything too fancy
but need something powerful enough to be able to generate reports to show how much work is getting done as well as flag areas where we could do some
training to help users and reduce requests.
In terms of number of users, there will be 3 higher level and then approx 120 standard users.
Have looked on the following link but having never used any of them was wondering if anyone had recommendations:

Thanks,
mads

My wife's company uses Footprints from Numara.
She has been really happy with it.
If want any more info, PM and I'll send you her email address

We have similar numbers to you and are fully operational it scan hardware for inventory. let users log fults online via email. logs soloutions
after 2 years using it we cant run without it cant recomend it enough really never looked at free versions but think it a Couple off K a year for 10

If you want something that is reasonably simple to configure and use then try OneOrZero - http://www.oneorzero.com/ and the link to the open source
helpdesk software is http://www.oneorzero.com/smforum/index.php?topic=6192.0
That is the software that I used at a previous employer and we used that for 3 years, the last year of which was sent trying to find a free helpdesk /
change management / cmdb system. In the end we went for RT but that requires quite a bit of configuration to get it to do stuff so wouldn't
recommend it to someone unless they're really into tweaking perl scripts etc.
The SpiceWorks software works well but the advertising and other stuff cluttering up the screens put me off plus the fact that data goes back to
Spiceworks. Depends of your business sector as to whether that is acceptable, so do check the Spiceworks T&Cs and data gathering policy.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I like the look of spiceworks and RT so will take a closer look at each.
