MK Indy - the journey begins
Been looking at various options for a while now and just when I thought I'd have to wait until funds allowed, I have managed to pick up a
'starter pack' of sorts:
Found an MK Indy unused, un-started project - it's a few years old but been left in a workshop gathering dust for ages. Thought it would be
rusty, but just needs a hose down
Complete with shiny new wishbones, uprights, a few bits of bodywork and a fully stripped Sierra donor - all of which went in/on my C4 Picasso
today!
chassis
bits
Will be selling the Pinto motor and probably get a Zetec to go with the Type 9 (unless a bike engine becomes available and I can persuade Mr Bank
Balance to behave)
Let the fun begin

I'd love a BEC to be honest - just all the extra costs add up compared to a CEC - and I'm on a tight budget.
I have a diff and gearbox, so a Zetec will be cheap - probably cost less than what I get for a 205 block Pinto - and then there's no, reverse,
speedo healer, gearchange, diff etc etc to buy. So what £1k more min?
But would be my preference if I can swing it!

Make sure you take plenty photos of your build and get recieipts for as much of your kit as possible. When you come to the IVA they will be looking
for evidence of your amateur build.
Cost wise and ease of build I'd say stick with cec and once on the road you can look at bec .
If you need any pointers give me a shout.

Good stuff, well done. Presumably you paid less than it will would have been if you'd bought it yourself?

Cheers Peter
I will do as advised regarding photos and receipts etc, got original sales receipt for chassis and all docs and reciept for donor.
Much as I want a BEC, I have a spreadsheet of costs (based on many forum searches - it gets scary!) - and no matter what I do, the CEC works out
substantially cheaper considering I have a full donor in the garage.
The decision is still not final - so will see what comes my way I guess - after all, this Indy just cropped up at the right price/time so you never
know.

Is this the one that you got: Mk Indy Project
If so you're a legend! That is such a good price for all that!
Can you make sure you post lots of pictures and details of your build as I'm looking to build an Indy at some point and a build thread would be
right helpful and interesting

Yes Davey, that was the one - it was too good to pass up I reckon
And I will be putting up lots of info along the way - although I reckon there's a lot already on here if you look hard enough.

Nice one, i think i would IVA it with the pinto and then change it to BEC.
Think about it, think about it again and then do it.

You know - that is a decidedly good idea. Get it up and running and legal, then tinker without the hassle of IVA-ness.
Bodywork would need thinking through with the exhausts being on opposite sides on a Pinto vs Bike, but could be a good way to go.
You'll have to let me know what it took to change yours over - and a Kwacker would be my choice due to past tinkerings (if you're local,
you might remember KZ Bitz Keith).

Too right that was too good to pass up! I'm a year or two off being in a position to start but if I was anywhere near close and seen that
I'd have bought it. Reckon that's well over £3K worth of stuff you got there if you were to buy it new and then get all the donor stuff.

Ground clearance OK with that setup?
I suppose I could go down that route - and I do know an exhaust manufacturer who could make up any manifold/can combination I required.

Just touched down a couple of times in fast dips in the road, nothing major.
I used a Zx9r header, Truflex flexible pipe, ready made tubing, Cat and a ZX12R silencer. The total cost was well under £200.
You can pay more than that for a silencer.

If you use the std pinto and manifold i have a robin hood system you can have which bolts directly onto the manifold.
Think about it, think about it again and then do it.

I did get the manifold - big heavy cast 4-2 jobbie - plus a bit of the system (2-1 pipe)
I guess in the true spirit of 'locost' - I might end up using the Pinto after all
