Ooooppps!

Oh dear.
I managed to 'kiss' a barrier at Kirkistown today in Lucy.
Coming out of the slow sprint circuit corners, I got on the gas a bit too early going onto the main straight, the back end came round I corrected the backend, which promptly found grip and straightened out, leaving me with my front wheels now facing the barrier! I slapped on the anchors and tried to straighten her out, but without a quick rack I couldn't get it back in time and pelted headlong into the crash barrier.
It is true, time slows down - as I saw the barrier coming my way I had time to think "Oh no here comes the barrier, I hope the impact isn't too bad". Luckily it wasn't too bad - I was unhurt, but the chassis is bent at the front quite badly. The nosecone's a writeofff, as is the top passenger side wishbone. and the radiator. I'll post some pics tomorrow - I'm knackered at the moment.
This puts the Nurburgring trip in doubt (it's only 6 weeks away!) - I'll need to see if I can get a front piece of an MK chassis and cut and weld it in maybe. The alternative is to go for a new chassis perhaps. I'm gonna start stripping her tomorrow - I'll come to a decision then.
What a day!!
There's a lot to be said for a quick rack folks!!

Cheers

Ali

Cheers,

A steering rack, which requires fewer turns of the steering wheel to get it from lock to lock.

Just to keep you all updated, yesterday at 7:15pm I drove Lucy out of the garage she's been in for the last 8 months down to her normal 'parking shed'.
She's basically restored with a few jobs left to do (currently she has about 25 degrees of toe out), I need to tidy the wiring and few other small jobs, sort the set-up out and I have to book an MOT, once that is passed, I'm back on the road.
In the meantime there's a TSCC track day / test day at Kirkiston on the 26th of March I should be at, if there's anyone else here coming along.
