clutch issues. (pinto engine)

well here goes another chapter in my lifes work.

further to the diff giving me issues the other day the clutch has now decided to be a mega pain in the arse.

now when i first built the car we used a cable from some random machine at work, had 3 points of adjustment on it so was seemed perfect for the job. however it's only roughly 2ft long.

was fine for a while but it's been playing up a the last couple of weeks with adjustment etc then today i went for a pre-stoneleigh blast and the clutch pedal brackets have totally twisted to the left leaving the clutch doing sod all!

now i'm thinking clutch cable is simply too short leading to me needing to press too hard on the pedal thus bending the brackets?

SO! there has to be someone out there with a indy using a type 9 box so how have you done the clutch cable? the standard sierra one looked several feet too long to do anything with!

if someone could tell me exactly what cable they have used and how they have attached it to the pedal and how they adjust it then i'd be eternally grateful!

looks like the tin top is going to stoneleigh now

John,

When I origionally built my Pinto car, I used the cable as standard and just looped it and secured it with cable ties so didn't look a mess. No problems.

the fitment at the box end isn't a problem really, it's the attaching to the pedal and adjustment that i can see me having problems with.

i got a connector from MK last year when i was building but it just had a couple of grub screws to hold the cable to it and i didn't think that would be tight enough on the cable?

As stated by Tim the MK2 Escort clutch is the one to use. It has a manual adjustment Bolt that goes at the clutch end. Fits mine fine.
Connection at the pedal is straight forward when you get the MK2 cable you will see.
