Wishbone Steel Sleeves

Can anyone give me a tip on what dimensions the sleeves should be
and what the mating faces are with regard the bushes, the mounting
brackets on the chassis and the sleeves?

The reason I ask is my sleeves are 45-46mm long (not cut particularly square either)
and the mounting brackets are approx 43mm wide so I haven't a hope of fitting them in.

Are the brackets and bushes supposed to be a lubricated fit face to face or should
the sleeve be slightly longer and effectively prevent the brackets from squashing
the bush faces when tightened up.

cheers

steven

this is a classic argument!

Basically, depends on exactly how hard the bushes are, but the crush tube should be essentially the same length as the bush. Maybe microscopically longer to help stop it binding, and to help the crush tube be locked tight by the bracket. If its too long then the bush will slop up and down the crush tube. Too short and the bush will be stressed.

Steel Sleeves / Crush tubes

It appears to help when you use the AKA of "crush tubes"...didnt know that ..still on that curve.

Plenty more found under search this time.

They definitely arent cut square.
When you roll them along the bench the ends are clearly not parallel.

That wont matter now as ive got to cut them anyway.

Thanks for the help.

Hi One sugestion i will make is that if you are spending time messing with the original ones you might as well replase them with some made of stainless steel now as most people end up doing this at some point eventualy anyway.

cheers matt

Hi i have never worked the cost of them out as i am usually doing as part of a larger conversion job so would be ss cost plus the hrs of total job.

Best bet would be to buy the ss as cheap as you can but of good quality and as close to the finished dia you will need and pass it on to a local machinist or friend whith a lathe and provide the apropriate beer tokens for the hrs.

I would of thoght that somebody on this forum with a lathe at home could do this for a small payment could be a few orders of others.

Why the hell the manufacturers dont use ss in the first place in beyond me espesialy the price they charge for the bushing package and the price they pay for them in the first place.

http://www.superpro.eu.com/Home.htm

These are the guys who sell the GENUINE aussie bushes. Still the best and come with SS bushes as standard.

Cheers,
Syd.
