"smashed" is hardly the word that I'd choose but then I work in engineering not PR
Blimey thats fast Is that time because the caterham is fast or because the tyres have so much grip that you don't have to slow down for the corners?

It has a 2.3 litre duratec tuned to 260 BHP. Caterham quote 3.1s 0-60 and 155 MPH top speed on the standard Avon tyres.

dont know if it was the stig ( suspect not ) the statement is ' smashed the Stigs record '

Surly if he was driving it would have been smashed His record . Maybe me reading too much into it

I still belive there is more than 1 white stig.

If it had track day tyres i suspect we'd have another "smashed" - shame top gear will never let it happen

shame really, bl**dy good car & british.

Am I alone in finding Dunlop's online presence confusing and awkward to navigate? I need new rubber so tried to find these tyres at their various websites. Not a chance.

"A stunning power lap from a Dunlop test driver" - guess that answers whether it was the stig or not.......

I'm glad to see a new fastest lap, but must admit, it fails to impress me that much either. "Smashed" by the heady time of 0.02 secs. Desn't that just mean the driver is a few lbs lighter than the Stig, or had a good poo before driving? Also, not meaning to degrade the new Dunlop tyres, but how do they compare with the konessssegeegege tyres, since the Top Gear cars must run as from the factory.
Having said that, a £40K motor has just beaten all other recorded attempts so far.

I have to agree, Bu**ered if i can find there trackday tyres on the website.

Shame as i'll be looking for new boots in the spring. Lumox that just looked them up on the net, £130 per corner for 195/50*15

Yup, I eventually found them too at Camskill but I just bought some R888s for 64.50 each instead. No way am I paying 130 quid a corner!

I notice the word underdog in the statement ?

Anyone who knows the handling capabilities of a 7 would not call it an underdog on a tight twisty circuit, horses for courses would it be up there if a 200mph straight was included ?

Its all pro rata int it, how many times do we come on here and tell storeys of our sub £4k locosts beating £60+k super cars on track days ? Same difference.

Got to agree with that. Put both round Lemans, for example, and see which wanders rapidly off in the distance. 7 are good at corners, less good at high speeds. Probably the same reason the Atom beat the bike round too.

I've driven the circuit at dunsfold and it's really not the sort of circuit I'd thought that would suit the seven. It has a large number of long straights, especially sphincter inducing follow through, something I thought I might do!

The only slow bit is hammerhead.
It really is a big power circuit

Still not convinced myself, the difference of 0.02 just means bugger all. Track temp, air temp, driver weight, humidity just about anything can make/lose that much and more.
