MK Front Brake - Flexible Hose

Hi there

I’m just putting the brake lines in on my Indy, how have you managed to keep the front brake line from touching the front wishbones on full lock?

If you have some pics to post that would be great.

Many thanks

Ian

No pics I'm afraid, but basically twist them like a little piggies tail!

I cable tied my hoses to the front wishbones, with some self-adhesive sponge between to stop them running the powder coating. This passed SVA fine.

Couple of methods people have used.

Some people use spiral wrap over the hose, some SVA centres will pass this as it protects the hose.

Another method is put stops in the rack to shorten the lock. A jubilee clip works apparently.

On mine the i managed to fit them so they were pointing backwards, away from the wishbones and they never touch.

As said Restrict the lock, and put a little bit of twist in the flexys and I also used spiral wrap for SVA and he was happy.
If you are going to do the valve springs on the rack trick to aid self centering then these will automaticley restrict the lock because or their compressed lengh.

Personally, I wouldn't restrict the lock on the rack to prevent the flexis from touching the wishbones. If it needs stops to prevent the tyres from rubbing the wishbones, then that's a different matter. Like TimC says, put a slight twist in them (after you've screwed them into the caliper) and that will prevent them from catching.

I found that with the standard Sierra rack that I had more lock than I needed.
Anyone else find that?

The quick rack we fitted had more lock than we needed, so we had to machine some aluminium spacers to prevent the tyres fouling on the wishbones. Strangely though, we never had this problem at all with our standard Sierra rack.

I put a slight twist in the pipes, and also cable tied some split petrol fuel hose round the bits which were potential hot points.
