MK locost donor parts

spoke to MK today about ordering a locost

they mentioned donor parts being very scarce

fair enough (I also get the feeling they dont want to sell the locost kit but they advertise it so?)

What parts are very rare

or even better are most parts available as reproduction or lighter alloy

its Mk2 escort and cortina

Escort or Cortina back axles are rare, i would find your donor first and also talk to Burton Performance before placing an order for the chassis

You can still get the parts if you look out for them. Best bet is a rotted out Escort or you can get most things on Ebay, but then you get hit for postage or travelling. Capri parts seem more readily available at the moment, because production finished later.

The main problem with Escort and Cortina parts is that the prices are reaching rip off levels.

Sierra donor will probably work out cheaper.

Hi the rear axle and front uprights plus other parts have been hard to find for the last 5 years but they still keep being found you just gotta look around.

PS you need an escort english rear axle not the capri or cortina. Instead of using the cortina front uprights why not use the sierra ones.

cheers matt

If you go IRS the back end is less of a problem as you can use a diff off any old quite a few Ford motors... IIRC the uprights are the main problem... Alloy aftermarket parts from e.g. Raceleda are an option for the front but not exactly Locost.... Still, unsprung weight etc etc...

Not sure how much these are

There's probably a good reason, but why go back to MK? (Not saying that you shouldn't, but why not have a look at what's out there?)

There are other suppliers who will give you exactky what you want. I think Matt's your man - he's even just up the road.
