Experience with MK Sportcars

Hi all,

I went to Stoneleigh on Sunday witht he intention of looking at Chris Gibbs new Haynes Roadster which is quite nice but while I was there I stopped by a few of the different Manufacturers etc and the one which caught my eye was the New MK Indy.

The fit an finish just seems more professional and the new inboard suspension looks good. About the only thing I don't like about it is the Hood scoop which I assume can be left off.

What kind of experience have you had with them and would you do anything differently if you were to buy from them again?

Good experance, great lot of lads and very helpfull, but that was a couple of years ago. I would us them again. Don't expect a good build manual, the indys was about 4 pages!

I ordered mine with a plain flat bonnet. MK are a decent bunch always willing to help you out.

I ordeded my kit an got it in 3 weeks, after asking them to put it off a week. It seems that I'm missing a couple of bits but they should be sorted out this week I expect.

I would say the only real negative points up to now are that their web site doesn't list all the contents of the kits properly and the build manual is more a token effort. For a better build manual go to there Irish distrubutor Kits n Classics.

You don't need a build manual for a MK Indy,I am building my 2nd MK Indy, always found the lads at MK very helpfull ,the cars are so easy to build, and great value for money,I know of quite a few people building there 2nd and 3rd MK which is always a good sign of agood product.
The new spec-R chassis is completely redesigned sharing only the overall size with the old chassis,in order that the old bodywork could still be used, well worth the extra £600.The new car drive has been much improved, now feeling a lot more planted on the road.

If you possibly can then actually go to the factory when you deal with them, the guys are really friendly and helpful (they'll never fail to offer a cuppa, last time I even got given lunch ), and it's always useful to have a poke around the other cars there and chat to anyone else who happens to be mooching about.

If there's one thing i'd like to see from them though it's the ability to pay for things by card over the phone/internet.

take a trip to their workshops, have a chat with the guys there and form your own opinion would be my advice. i personally never had a problem with them, always helped me out on the odd occassion i needed it and were polite and friendly.

just don't go expecting a highly efficient fast production, end of the day they are still a bunch of blokes in a shed building decent cars, just the shed has got bigger and the cars have got better over the years.

built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

If you're thinking of going up to MK Sportscars to pay a visit, Saturday mornings are generally good.

There's usually a selection of both CEC and BEC cars that turn up and I'm sure the owners wouldn't mind taking you out for a passenger ride to help you decide on your choice of bike engine

My overall experience with MK has been pretty good - just don't expect perfect customer service (not that bad, but you may need to get on the pohone a few times to jog their memories about some items!)

But the most important thing is that the product you pay for is well made and goes together fairly easily.

Never made me a cup of tea though - must have gone on the wrong day or something

PS - don't even think about whether to go CEC or BEC. Just go BEC and save yourself the trouble of getting it wrong otherwise

Saturday mornings are when they get the pie'n'chips in from what they said.

They did mention getting a BBQ (poss brick one) as long as they don't give too many customers food poisoning

I went for a look round in April.
Had a guided tour of the workshop and the various cars they were building, got a look at the new and old chassis and taken for a spin in one of their Indy Blades.
After a good chat with them about building an Indy I ordered one on the spot and picked it up at easter.
I now have no spare time, no social life, no money and my hands are never clean and its all their fault but they are top blokes

One other thing to consider is how close you are to them.. It's a bit of a trip to pop over from some parts of the country...

Dan

PS we were mad tea each of the three times we have been down, does this make me a "special" person? No comments please...

As you are in Hinkey its not a big trip over to MK.

On top of that they only charge a quid a mile (based on a one way trip so its actually 50p per mile travelled by them) for delivery of kits which is pretty good IMHO.

Wot they said.

The overall product is very good quality and excellent value for money. I ordered my kit about 4 weeks ago and it should be ready this weekend. Dealing with them face to face is the best.

My only concern is that they dont seem to have embraced this computer thingy. So card payments, printed reciepts, emails etc etc dont generally happen. I suppose though that this is also part of the charm as its a very social, laid back experience

i spoke to mk when they where up at detling not to long ago and they didnt want to give me the time of day!

i tryed speaking to them about the "new car" and they just seemed like they couldnt be bothered with me, like they thought i was waisting there time.
then i was asking about engines and all i got off them is "you dont want to do that" or "thats a waist of time" and the one that pissed me off loads "it would be easyer just to use a bike engine", not the comments i wanted to hear.

Aye, the reason they don't do the credit card thingy is with the value of their transactions it would hammer them financially if they found one or two kits were sold on a fradulent transaction.

Then again with my missing parts they said then would pop em in the post, and when I asked about a handbrake cable they said they would just pop it in and it was OK to just drop em a cheque in the post. You won't get that at Tesco
