Handbrake Cable

Having put a new Sierra handbrake cable in position, there appears to be two rubber grommets on each outer sleeve which have nowhere to go. One is thin with a groove in it and the other is longer and about the same dia. as the cable tubes through the rear of the chassis with a collar on it.

I'm guessing the thin ones can be binned but has anyone re-used the longer ones and put them in the other (handbrake side) of the tubes ?
