Magnets on Prop Adaptor for Speedo
Hi All,
We have magnets glued to the prop adaptor with araldite these have been fine for the first year on the road then recently we have lost a couple, has
anyone got any recomendations to a permanent fix, can i get the magnets tack welded to the adaptor, (can you weld a magnet??) or do i just keep
replacing the araldite, I think the problem is that the araldite has dried out over the period of time.

I have no solution but you definately cannot weld a magnet. Heat destroys magnatism.

Permanent fix would be to drill the flange and tap hole and magnet, then use locktight
However i used araldite metal.

wrap tape around the prop flange. it's about as simple as you can get and works well.

Scratch metal surface well before applying Araldite build up a good fillet on all sides and wipe a very thin layer over the top of the magnet to
encapsulate it , this will give extra strength also protect it from oil water etc , certainly no weldie weldie heat knackers em .
Mine are Araldited as above and still hanging on in there thankfully .

I drilled a shallow hole to take my magnet, then glued with araldite slow, not that rapid new stuff.
1 1/2 years and still going.
My original speedo pick up I just used self adhesive magets to prop flange with a layer of PVc tape to keep tight, theyre still there too

Thanks for all the replies, tried most of them, the magnets are taped up as well, it managed to fire its self through the tape and hit the speedo
sensor and stuck its self to the chassis rail.
I'll replace it with another with some fresh araldite and re wrap them

can you use a cable tie?
or make an adapter to fit the ford gearbox - see here
only tools to make it were tube cutter, drill press. files and blow torch.
Has been 100% reliable for nearly 200 miles....

Didn't use magnets on mine , just positioned the sensor to pick up on the prop bolts. Been fine for 3 years.

i had similar issue a while back.
ETB recommended drilling shallow hole for each (same depth) and then a certain loctitie product. (ive posted ages ago what it is, cant remember now).
The loctitie is expensive so aladite is next option.
IIRC i used JB weld in the end but didnt drill any holes. Been fine since. Tape has been suggested before, im just sceptical that the adhesive can
soften over time and start to come off.
