Bl**dy Clutch cable

Well my Clutch cable has just snapped ....again. That's the second cable in not many miles.

Anyone else has a problem with clutch cables in their Indy's?

Both times it's snapped, its been at the pedal end, it just snapped off at the nipple.

good weather today as well ...... TYPICAL

Cheers

Scott

Just a suggestion, why not convert it to hydraulic?
It may be better long term.

Yup, done more clutch cables than I'd care to remember. Always the same failure, at the pedal end.

I've just changed over to hydraulic and although it works for a blast around the doors, I haven't got used to the new action nor done many miles in it yet.

What engine are you using?

Mike

I had a couple go early on then I bought a super thick cable from MNR which seems to be holding up well. Proper rod end at the pedal.

Yeah - upgrade required I'm afraid. Mine is custom made by Speedy Cables with an adjustable clevis at each end.

Hi Guys,

To answer some question

its a Pinto Engine, so type 9 G/b. The hydraulic clutch seems an expensive option, as the cables ain't expensive, just a PIA when it goes and you don't have a spare.

The cable is attach to the pedal with a simple U shaped bracket and a clevis pin to hold it all together.

I welded up a quadrant at the pedal , sort of fixed copy of the original sierra one to prevent any fatigue/flexing focussing on one point in the cable. 7000 miles so far.

I had a pul rod clutch on my Locost and it worked really well. Pretty easy to do as well.

If it's breaking the nipple off it's not pulling it straight. I've just had the same problem with my daughter's Corsa, you could hear the nipple clicking as it moved to one side and they only lasted 6 weeks. If it's fixed rigidly to the pedal it will fret through, make sure the U bracket is free to swivel so it pulls evenly.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I think you could be on to something there. The U bracket I'm using is quite small and it could be the back of the pedal stoping in turning the way it should
