roll on friday...

... as I'm off to MK Indy to have a look around and order my kit!!

Only problem is I cant decide on whether to go with the standard Indy or the Indy R. Any suggestions/opinions?

Plan for the car is to be used on the road mainly but the odd day on the track.
Setup is likely to be:

quickrack
discs all round
R1 engine
LSD
15 - 17" wheels
paddleshift (possibly with a flatshifter at a later date)

Anyone going to be there on Friday morning? I'm missing the Open Day on Saturday as at a wedding

Have fixed the spec for you.
(Don't mention it, it's all part of the service).

What steering wheel are you going for?

If you're mostly going to be doing road driving a quick rack may not be the best option (especially if you're using a small steering wheel).... Opinions vary but personally I find a quick rack / small steering wheel combo too hard work for the road.... twitchy and bad for parking...

IMHO You need to add a proper welded roll bar to that spec.

You must be kidding? The Indy is little short of awful with the standard ratio rack. Even the Sierra itself is borderline.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but I think those that shared your view, having actually driven an Indy with both 3.8 and 2.4 or 2.7 racks, would be a tiny minority.

Really depends on what you are using the car for, roads or track days.

By all accounts the Spec R does handle better, but if using on the road the normal Indy is more than up to the job and still great fun on the track.

Paul Fisher has ahd both cars, so it may be worth dropping him a u2u.

Cheers

Ian

Oops :edited so say you were at a wedding Saturday for the open day

Personally I would go with what you want as its your bloomin car

But when I spec'd my car I went for a good engine (07 ZX10R) and a decent chassis (spec R). All the other bits are standard Ford etc as when time/money permits I can upgrade at my leisure.

Having owned, built and driven both the original Indy and the new spec R,I would advise going for the new chassis even if your not going to use it much on track,it feels alot more planted and has a better feel to it on the road, and for the extra £600 you will recoup more than this amount when you do come to sell it,as the spec R's will comand a better price second hand and will be easier to sell

Never actually driven a Spec R but having seen a few on track, I'd definitely go for the new chassis.

thanks for all the replies folks... looks like I'm going for the Spec R

Ben - i'm looking at a small wheel yes, probably 240 or 260. i have heard that some people say that it is more twitchy but if that is the case, then i'll just upgrade and go for a bigger one.

Zilspeed - thanks for the spec update. but any particular reason such small wheels?

TimC - "IMHO You need to add a proper welded roll bar to that spec." care to elaborate? do you mean just a bar or cage? and any particular suggestions for type and location?

Paul - cheers for the info. but sell it?! never!

i was advised not to get a quick rack by a friend who has had 3 mk,s he said it was all over the road specialy fast country lanes where its a bit bumpy.

13" wheels are the way forward u get a better ride as u get the give in the 60 profile tyre also car handles better feels more prodictable. as mk they have put 13s on ther demmo car (gsxr 1000 supercharged)

woop woop!!!! Have ordered my kit - should be picking it up in about 4-5 weeks!!!

Have also ordered my engine - 2008 R1 (cheers Malc)

Anyone point me to a place that sells sierra steering column so I can buy it and send to MK for modification? And anywhere else other than Rally Design for front uprights?
