MK Full Roll Cage retrofit
Hi Guys, having had a great day at the MK open day - I am tempted to retro fit the full MK roll cage to my indy (I think 'matt.c' has done
the same)
I intend to buy the front tube and tops tubes and weld to existing roll bar, but I only want to bolt the front tube to chassis.
So I was planning to bolt some plates to the chassis rails at floor and top of cockpit rails and then weld front roll cage tube to these plates.
(dont want to weld tube to chassis as aleady have ally floor and side panels on.
Has any one got pictures of the MK plates fitment or their own similar plated retrofit??
Also the front tube looks like it will be very close to Steering wheel and or indicator stalks etc??

We welded plates to the chassis, right against the floor in Matts car. His already had all the panels on when we did it, easy job.
Check the roll bar carefully when you get it, matts was all over the place, very poor!

Hi
The appropriate way of fitting the front legs to the floor is to put a new piece of chassis tube at 45deg between the cross tube and the outer tube.
And then plate the top and place the feet of the cage on top.
Just welding the mounting plate to the cross tube and the outer tube at the base is not sufficient.
Hence the MSA and the FIA would not allow a mounting point like that through.

Fit the cage how matt ^^^^^^ says as it would be a much better job than the way that i done mine. I copied MK with there mountings and now wished i
has listerned to matt.
Mine will be done again when project rebuild happens.

apologies for the thread resurrection...but i was searching for images of MK full cages and came across a link back to locost!
I'm not concerned about the mounting plate issue as i already have a full cage, but i am considering cutting off my vertical straight bars and
replacing them with angled bars like on this MK to give me more headroom (i'm a lot taller than the builder and the seats are bolted flat to the
floor as it is)
I'm not going racing but i figure that if i have a cage i may as well have one that would actually protect my head in a roll.
i'm wondering if i should be adding any horizontal bracing (the current cage has a diagonal brace, which i could leave in place)
just after some ideas and thought on the best way to design it

Do you mean cutting out the horizontal straight bars?

i wasnt quite sure what to call them, vertical or horizontal!
i'm thinking bout cutting out the two bars the run front to back on the car and replacing with two angled ones as per the MK image.
for reference here is my current cage

I went for a similar option for my cage.
The diagonal brace on the upper part isnt required for MSA purposes, but if your not going racing then it shouldn't matter anyway.
