Corsa steering rack on Tiger Avon??
wombat - 20/7/11 at 04:51 PM

Next item on my build list is to get a rack, MK2 quick Rack is specified and various suppliers offer circa GBP100 mark.
Sat in my Corsa sxi today and realised it was only 2 turns lock to lock, any reason this would not fit? (GBP35 ish on ebay)
Obviously mounting points most likely to be different but not a major issue in itself.

Any thoughts??

When you turn right, the wheels will point left - you could get used to it though

Isn't the Corsa steering electrically power assisted?

Yes, but it's on the column so the rack it's self is unpowered.

The problem is it's mounted behind the axle line and the Tiger (and all sevens) mount it in front so as Mark says it'd operate the wrong way. You can't mount it behind as the engine is in the way.

Are you sure it's 2 turns lock to lock? So only one turn from strieght ahead to full lock?

If you use the powered column to turn the Tiger rack how will it reverse the steering? It would only do that if you use the Corsa rack as well.

OK, not checked anything for myself but could you take a left hand drive one, opel whatever, and mount it up-side-down to get the input on the proper side?

The OP was asking about the rack not the column... the clue is in the title

Does it say anywhere in the IVA manual that the steering has to work in the same way as everyone elses?

It might make for an interesting test drive, but think how theft proof it would be.

Oh right, isn't the torque sensor in the column what gives two turns lock to lock so it will vary with speed?

Why would you want to put all that HEAVY machinery coupled with the complexerty of it on a lightweight 7 ?

I don't think the powered columns change the ratio, they simply add some assistance.
