TIGER AVON WEIGHTLOSS
laptoprob - 9/11/11 at 03:27 PM

Got an Avon weighing circa 600kgs with a full cage on.

What have others done to reduce the weight on these things?

Lighter/smaller wheels?
Alloy hubs?
Non vented discs?
Take the 2nd seat out?
Alloy fuel tank?

I saved some weight, by cutting every bolt down to 2 threads above what was actually needed, all over the car

a full rewire, taking out any redundent stuff

taking out old/redundent items, from various upgrades

Alui tank, but holds 2 more gallons
only one fuel pump, as did have a reserve and main pump
No spare wheel on the back, saved 3 stone on its own, as no carrier etc
new caterham roll bar, in place of the old steel hoop, saved 1.5 stone

My next mission will be to fully ally the engine bay and rear axle area, to streamline a bit

Steve

Do you know how much lighter the hubs are?

dare i say it... bike engine conversion

sierra diffs come in pretty hefty, have a look at the freelander diff and shafts, im not 100%
on this but its worth having a look,
think it comes down to how much you want to spend

Bike engines just aren't for me i`m afraid. The car goes as well as most of the best bike engine ones already but its a bit weighty into and out of the corners hence this thread

The diff is something i already thought about to be honest but Ive got a lovely Quaife ATB in the Sierra 7" and wouldn't want to swap it.

Think i`m going down the uprights/fuel tank route for now but cheers anyway.

Not casting aspersions, but losing body weight has to be the most cost effective measure
