Radiator
DaveFJ - 31/8/04 at 12:36 PM

I have read that the Tiger radiator is about as much use as tits on a fish (allegedly)

so my question is this, what is the consensus of opinion on other options ?

I have heard tell of the early micra/Polo and Merc 190 radiators being used....

I will be running a tuned 2.1l pinto (possibly upto 160bhp+) and hope to replace this at some future date with a cossie lump so would like something that will cope with either of these engines.

Also i want to use an oil cooler - any suggestions on type/source and mounting position ?

Cheers

BTW - does anybody know who's site this is ? HERE
some great pics but no info at all - good job on the rear arches as well.

If you want to save money, find a car with an oil cooler as standard, then find at a scrappy....much cheaper than mosport prices.

Peugeot 205 1.9GTi has a oil cooler fitted as standard as will 309GTi and probably the Citroen derivatives as well.

this was my intention

but what cars have a suitable sized/shaped oil cooler?

have looked at sierra cossie items but they seem a bit long.... (although I could pick one up off Ebay for £20)

I am particularly interested in cooling because of my fully enclosed floor (including engine bay)

I am looking into extra vents on bonnet or sides (or both) and ducting for radiator.

Cheers

BTW the website is very good, clear pics at every stage....I thought his steering rack looked high....and its in front of the chassis, seem to remember a discussion about this being a problem in SVA at one place.

sorry cant help with suggested donors tho...must be someone on here with an idea...

I believe the website is that of Gary Symons. He's probably on this list but I don't know what his username is.
He's definitely on the yahoo! groups tigerracing list, though.
There's been a problem at some SVA centres with the steering rack mounts flexing under turning and so, they want to see some sort of bracing to counteract this.
Gary's site shows how he made up a flat bar for this purpose.

cheers,
Andy.

I saw the bracing on his rack and thought it was a good idea, I didn't know it was because of SVA problems though.....

Good to know now when it is easy for me to fix!

Ever thought of adapting a heater matrix as an oil cooler?

Thing is oil coolers are so cheap and easy to get hold of... (especially on Ebay at the mo)

I just need to know what size I need and where I'm going to mount it

Peteff - 1/9/04 at 08:43 AM

I'm sure I saw one on an old van in the scrapyard. It looked a reasonable size for use on a car

I've used a Polo rad. Sits vertically right at hte fornt of the nose, made of ali and much better than the Tiger thing. Engine stays at around 87dgrs. Plenty of room for an oil cooler as well.

Pat
good to hear you have a polo rad, keen to see your car on sat, interested to see how you have done the pipework amongst other things.
