Tiger Avon Part build
stupott901 - 25/8/12 at 04:39 PM

Hi there all,

I have recently bought a Tiger Avon Kit which is part built (In fact it has only brake lines fitted), Currently it has a 2.0 Pinto with it.

As it has no body work my question is which type of body work to go for Avon or the GTA

Would a GTA with a pinto be desirable? as I enjoy building kits and most probably keep for long,

or would i be better upgrading to a Zetec?

would a MX 5 engine fit ok?

Thanks stu

The GTA bodywork is actually very good and fits the factory chassis pretty good, personally id sell the Pinto and go Zetec. See here for GTA Build Pics:

Snake belly

thanks for reply, I do like the GTA bodywork looks lush, and with it fitting good i will go for that then,

As for engine choice, the Zetec does sound the better choice,

Which is the best route to go Used Engine or one of those from the factory new ones?

Is it a straight fit onto the type 9 gear box?

What is needed to get it running I dont want to go spending £1000's

Cheers

Stu,
I would also go down the route of GTA bodywork with it being the latest Tiger model and has been designed to fit on all older Avon chassis. I would also go down the zetec route. A zetec will bolt straight onto the type 9 but remember if you swap from Pinto to Zetec your shopping list is not just the engine, you will also need to buy a different inlet manifold & possibly carbs (depending on what you have with Pinto), exhaust manifold and downpipes, electric fuel pump (Pinto has mechanical pump), maybe a different ECU such as megajolt, coil pack, starter motor to name but a few bits. My Tiger started life as a Pinto but i soon swapped to Zetec and don`t regret it.

Snippy,

At the mo the pinto has a 32/36 downdraught webber on it, so guess would have to get new carbs for zetec,

What is the best value for money for the inlet/carbs and ecu etc?

Is there a supplier who would be able to supply all this?

and is it best to go for used or new engine?

as for exhaust manifold i have to get one any way as it does not have one with it

thanks for advice

I am conviced on the GTA bodywork

I'm breaking my avon and have a full zetec engine package which will soon be up for sale. Engine is a silver top which I have letter from ford stating pre 95. twin 45 and alpha webber ingnition, shortened sump and full exhaust.

Wrote it off back end. Im about 90% comp in my new avon build which is a duratec, so zetec not required. If it had been zetec, this engine would have went in, no messing. I had car for over 3 years with no probs at all.
