Fuel tank size
Lander - 15/9/15 at 05:27 PM

I am in the process of getting a fuel tank sorted and just wanted to check sizes for my own sanity.
The book says 700mm long no problem with that, it then says 215mm high and 190mm front to back. I am planning to sit the tank on bars that will attach to the bottom of the chassis therefore the tank will be in line with the bottom of the chassis rear members. However the book dimensions makes a square cross section which to my mind protrudes past the rear angled upright chassis pieces. Does this not cause an issue with body fitment (I don't have a body yet to check?) or is there a gap between the rear of the body tub and those angled uprights. I have tried to find an image but without success.

Any help appreciated before I commit to having a tank made.

Thanks as always,

Ian

I've got the larger Tiger alloy tank that fits flush with the lower rails and can be dropped out the bottom. I can measure for you if it helps. LxWxH came out at ~31 litres when I measured.

If you could have a quick measure it would put my mind at ease. Also if you could make sure the front to back dimension is the same at the top and the bottom i.e square cross section that would also stop me worrying.

Thanks in advance,
Ian

My tank is definitely square, i.e. no sloping sides. I will measure the tank for you and check the clearance on the diagonal rear braces. If you want any pics U2U me an email address.

Sorry to hijack, I'm looking at fabricating a tank for my Avon, what size is the larger one from tiger?

640 X 260 X 193

There is 35mm gap between the rear top edge and the sloping rear bodywork.

You could maybe make the tank a couple of cm wider each side to fill the full width between the diagonal chassis braces. Might want to check on yours this fouls nothing as I did not visually check all the way down the sides eg clearance for fuel outlet.

Thanks DJT, so it is 260mm high, that's the dimension that concerned me and yours is bigger than the book sizes so that makes me happy. Thanks again for doing that, much appreciated.

Yep 260mm high. That is measured from the bottom of the tank (obviously), which is flush with the bottom of the chassis rails.
