As above IIRC the SVA (back in the day) stated the indicators had to be 400mm or less inwards than the widest part of the car (outside edges of the
rear arches in my case). I used motorbike indicators and made up some extension pipes with M8 nuts swaged into the ends of some Ø15mm copper pipe
then covered with black plastic conduit...

The length of extension is unimportant, as it will vary on width of the nose/side panel and width of car (at widest point, so usually rear arches). As
above its the 400mm from widest point thats important.

I did virtually the same thing and drilled through the bolts that go into the swaged nuts to pass the wires through. The big nut that you can see when its on the car is purely cosmetic to hide the rough end of the plastic and is a spare plastic domestic plumbing nut that I had lying around.
