Brake fluid crisis
studon - 27/3/06 at 08:49 PM

Hi All.

I am now blasting my Avbon around now its got warmer. However I now have a problem with brake fluid escaping from around the master cylinder. Its going everywhere!
The brakes are working fine and when I call upon someone to pump the brakes there are now visible leaks under pressure. I have pushed and pulled at the fluid tank and cannot see any visible signs of leaks. Its a mystery!!
Any Ideas?

is there a pipe between the master cyclinder and reseviour?

if so, are you sure its brake fluid safe, fuel pipe doesn't make the grade!

will it pass the sva with fuel pipe between the res and master cyl?

Strangely enough, no!

Needs to be (cotton?) braided hose I believe and stamped as brake fluid safe (possibly with receipts to prove it IIRC.).

Hope that helps,
James

If the leaks are only appearing under pressure then you must have a dodgy union joint - check that you havent cross threaded a connector somewhere.

This is probably escaping around the master cylinder reservoir cap - especially if you are driving enthusiastically

The cap on the reservoir HAS to breathe to allow the fluid to flow into the m/cyl'.

Hence there's an escape route if you overfill it or drive too enthusiastically.

Wipe it up and just keep an eye on the level.

It was the cap!!
Hurrah it's fixed no more brake fluid in the face!!

Thanks for all your posts
