BMWTJW - 12/3/07 at 06:08 PM

What sort of performance would you expect for the following specification? It's a tiger avon. What power output and perfomance would be expected?

-2.0 litre Pinto Engine

-Tiger Racing supplied stage 1 reconditioned engine with ported head

-Kent FR32 camshaft

-Twin Webber 45s

-Stainless steel exhaust

-Type 9 - 5 speed gearbox

14 inch alloys and have Yokohama A539 tyres.

120 hp? maybe 125?
considering a 600kg car, 0-60 in just under 5 seconds, last time i checked.

Go Bike engine you know it makes sense

Generally cheaper too

an avon with a pinto is about 595kg give and take a little
when i put mine on the rolling road it had 125bhp that's with no mods and just bike carbs that are 40mm

mookaloid - 12/3/07 at 07:20 PM

If well built I would hope for about 140+ BHP with that spec.

About 5 seconds to 60mph I would imagine depending on which diff you go for.

Cheers

Mark

Yes, i know a bike engine makes sense SO second hand locost with a bike engine, whats it gonna cost?? are there any out there???

i had a 2.1 pinto in a super 6 (pictured left) mild cam on 45's and made 160bhp... even peter baldwin was shocked......should never of sold that car. Never mind found bike engines instead

try a BEC before you make that decision, although very popular on this site not to every ones taste. Great for track and 20 mile runs on the road, but not so good for the odd sunny day run at 'not warp speed', which despite the abuse i'll proberly get for this post, is sometimes nice to do when the suns beating down.
Like i say if possible try to get a go in one before you decide, I was originally building an avon with a zx9 engine and by chance got a go in one at chester sports cars and on my return cancelled my engine a put a zetec in it.
Its a personel choice at the end of the day
Now waiting for the torrent of abuse

My Cat has a 2.0L Pinto with twin 45's. I put it on a rolling road in November last year and it is producing 130bhp, which he said was good for a standard engine with those carbs. Thinking about a cam now

If checked on good RR id expect you to have about 125 at flywheel, maybe pushing 130 with that set up if all is well (assuming a good exhaust is fitted). If a refreshed engine and very well put together id agree with Mookie. I guy local to me has trin 45's and a mild cam and was RR'd at 140 ish at the flywheel (which as we all know is an approximate figure) Id guess 0-60 would be more like mid to high 5's depending on gear ratios and traction etc.

I got 130 out of mine thats a 2L with 40s, cam, lightened flywheel, and big valves but that was with a fulty fuel pump. you should be looking at around 140. best of luck and let us know what you get.
