basically I have the following radiator but im not sure what is the top joining fixtures to hold the radiator onto the chassis?

can you see the two bits that go from the radiator to the front top of the chassis? what are they!?

they look like home made steel painted straps to me. you will probably have to make some to suit you're rad.

They is brackets That bottom one looks like a polo rad and your top one looks like an escort/cortina type item.

Most people have to make up there own brackets to mount the rad to the chassis.

Some bits of bent steel strip will do the job. Some one wil be along soon with some piccies of theirs im sure.

Hello mate - the second picture that you have posted is a polo rad compared to the Tiger rad.

Tiger have a metal bracket that holds the radiator in place (in the middle) but mine was for a Super Six which has different chassis positions to the Avon.

Might be worth asking if any Avon owners have a picture so that you can see what you need to make, or phone Tiger and buy one (they can't be that expensive as it is a steel bracket).

The rad you wish to fit is the Tiger rad (not very good - heavy and has been known to leak) The lower pic shows a Polo rad (recommended)
Either way, you'll have to make up brackets to mount the radiator and if you use the tall Tiger rad, it'll have to be inclined in order to fit it in the nose cone.
The smaller Polo rad will sit upright in the Avon nose cone and has four useful plastic lugs on the front and back which can be tapped to mount the brackets and cooling fan.
(I'll try to take some pics of my polo rad fitted later on to give you an idea)

I have an Avon radiator and that leaks at the top!
Will change it after SVA

i used a polo rad and made some brackets to mount the rad up right

i havent got the nose cone yet so I cant really see what angle I should incline it at. With that in mind its probably better to leave it until I get the body work.

this is my car. looks like the person I bought it off made some folks for the radiator or are they normal? cant see them on other photos

Hi Mate,

2nd pic is my car.

I started with the Tiger rad, but bought the Polo one as it is sooo much better.

The Tiger one is an arse to fit and has to be at a stupid angle leaning back.

Top bracket has to be improvised.

Junk it now and but a Polo one.

doh, I just bought the radiator the other week

This is a picture i of the angle of the radiator
It is about 15mm above the chassis and it just misses the top of the nose cone
If I know that the VW polo fitted before I go this one I would of got one of them, as they look much better

thanks a lot for that. i'll probably post the radiator I have on here for sale over the next couple of days and then start looking around for a polo rad.

Be careful, there are several sized polo radiators - be sure you get the right one!!
Go to your local German Swedish and French parts suppliers and ask for one for the 1.0L Polo 380mm core- GSF part no. 17321b.
or go on-line at http://www.gsfcarparts.com (costs around £43.50 plus vat )
