Right, I'v got the engine in position and it sits central within the chassis and it on the engine mounts that are provided by Tiger, the problem
is that the starter motor won't fit into position because it is hitting on the lower part of the chassis. I'v looked at the starter mortor
that Tiger supply and it seems to be the same as the one that I have fitted, so should the engine be offset by about 10mm so the starter will fit?
Any idears please?
I don't think there should need to be any offset what starter are you using?
And what rubber engine mounts are you using?

I'm using the engine mounts that were supplied by tiger.
I have just posted a couple of photos. One is of the Tiger starter and the other is the one that I have in my car.
I did have the engine working but that was with packing under the engine mounts and this wont pass the SVA.
Steve
Your engine looks lower than what mine is.
i would say mines about an inch higher.
but that could be just mine.
luego mounts and fiesta g/box rubbers
I was thinking about different engine mounts but that would push the engine up to high and through the bonnet.
Steve
I found mine fouling a chassis rail as well. Lifting the gearbox mount up 1/2" moved it well out of the way.
Steve,
Are you the same 'Black Cat' as registered on the main Tiger forum at http://www.tigerownersclub.co.uk ?
Admittedly, I'm not familiar with the zetec install, but having done a search, it looks like you need the starter motor from a 1.8CVH Sierra as
its smaller. (Of course, this may well be the starter motor that Tiger supplied you, anyway, but it could well be worth posting a picture of it on
there to confirm?)
Other than that, like others, I can only suggest using thicker rubber mounts to raise the engine. ( I know you say it may foul the bonnet, but the
Avon was originally designed to accomodate the pinto, which I believe, is a taller engine? so you may have more room than you think?)
HTH,
Andy.
I have a pair of engine mounts see
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=65364
50mm tall if you are interested, but I will need a reply today if you want them.
I had the same problem with rubber from tiger, so I used taller rubber ( and engine fit into the bonnet). (I have LHD and starter motor is on the right)
I removed the starter motor from the zetec and as I was going uptowards Tiger yesterday I went and saw Jim and Sue. The starter that I have is very
much the same as there one, so changing it for there one is not an option.
I will check out the 1.8 Ford version at my local ford dealership today.
Will also look at the option of raising the gear box mounting and the engine mounts slightly.
When I spoke with Jim he suggested that I move the engine over about the 10mm I'm looking for. Any comments on this?
Steve
Right, I'v solved the problem. When I installed the gearbox mount it was fitted under the chassis and it should have been mounted on top, this
lifted the gearbox up by about 25mm and in turn raised up the starter motor so it clears the chassis rail.
Many thanks for all the suggestions.
Regards Steve
Glad to hear you got it sorted.
Just been looking in your photo archive. That's a very natty handbrake adjuster - where did you get it from?
Andy.
Well, I had fitted the standard arrangment that Tiger supplied, which was a 10mm steel rod that you drilled three holes in, but like the rest of you
out there I was not really impressed.
My son has a couple of Honda CRX cars, one of which he was stripping down so I took the adjuster from his handbrake and fitted it onto the standard
Ford handbrake.
I then machined the two hexagon handbrake cable retainers that also came via Tiger round, apart from the end which I left hexagon so that I could get
a spanner on it and they should drop into the adjuster
unit which I think makes a nice unit.
