Avon Bug

After reading many of the threads on this forum
I am very impressed there is a lot of useful
helpful info in them for a novice like me.
I have been bitten by the bug the Tiger Avon
Bug and not in a good way, don't get me wrong
I want to build my own locost with a ZX 9R
engine (I have not as yet had the pleasure
of having driven or even been a passenger in
one but the whole idea intrigues me,
and power to weight is excellent).
My main problem is the tiger avon book that
I am attempting to build a chassis form,
As I told my girlfriend I was going to take
my time and enjoy the experience of building
my own car, no don't laugh I know what you
are thinking. Why doesn't he just buy a chassis or
build a Ron C chassis? Well I wanted IRS,and had a
Serria 2l glsi with rear discs that I
thought would be xlent also I liked the idea
of a challenge. ok for some reason I have
aged considerable over the summer and I
would not recommend this book as a way to
gaining a better relationships with the
ladies.
I have the lower part of the chassis made and
about 1/3 of the top however the book as
you all know and I have found out the book is
far from detailed and I was hoping there is
someone out there can advice me.
Has anyone built one of these chassis from
scratch any info would be greatly appreciated?
I am not one for giving up without a fight
but how much resolve do you need to build one
of these things?

you will be succesful. with some effort you will get there, and if you ever get stuck this forum is an excellent place for getting both help and motivation, the latter being the most important part.

though i haven't seen the avon book, i too am using a sierra for an IRS set up.

my theory is if you find yourself getting stuck with something, bodge it. better a good car in this life then a part finished excellent car in the next!

anyway all the best, Joel

don't give up!!

i nearly did a number of times. i totally agree about the book, theres not enough info and some of the info that they do give is wrong.

i built my chassis from the book and have had to do some things twice. i suggest when you get the chassis done (bar the brakets) only use the book as a guide (i just used the pictures), offer up the parts to the chassis and tack in place, at least then you know its guna fit.

the only thing i havnt welded to the chassis are the suspension brackets cuz i'm making my own wishbones (using luego bushes and bush tubes) so will assemble and offer up and tack on when i get them done.

dont loose sight of the end.....you will get there.

if you need any help everyone here is here to help.

good luck
