Northy - 1/12/03 at 09:01 PM

How many Avon builders do we have on here?

What stage are you at?

Cheers

AvonBelgium - 1/12/03 at 11:52 PM

Hi,
I'm building an Avon
Paneling 90% ready
Rear suspension ready
Loom in
Handbrake ready
Brake lines in
Fuel lines in
2.4 ratio steering rack and other steering parts in

Front suspension needs to be powder coated, and then can me mounted.
Just need to make a centring ring for the front brake discs ( using the Sierra calipers and a volvo disc on the cortina upright)
Petrol tank is cut and ready to weld
Finalising the design for the pcb board for my Audi 100 gauges
Alu side panel ready

At this moment I try to get all the body parts ready

And an escort RS 2000 16v 150 BHP engine is almost ready to be mounted ( need to modify the oilpump pick-up, because I took of 35 mm from the oil sump), and also 35 mm from the MT 75 bellhousing)

Have some holidays at the end of the month, and try to get the car on his wheels with the engine in, and all the body panels ready to be painted

dblissett - 14/12/03 at 11:34 AM

if you think the weldings bad you should try reading their drawings you end up working it out yourself
ps i am a engineer so i should be able to read drawings

DARRYL - 14/12/03 at 09:06 PM

Stepson and myself bought a comprehensive kit in Feb 03- just a body fitting stage- not looking too good tho. I spoke to Jim Dudley 2 weeks ago to complain over the car etc. HE told me they had SOLD 250- yes 250 Avons to date!............... where the hell are they? Red one at Donny this year, Yellow one at Harrogate this year. So Jim where's the rest?

Avoneer - 15/12/03 at 01:09 PM

I also complained about the bodywork, especially one wheel arch being 1 inch wider across the front than the other and a few other bits, and have a written responce. To sum up, the reply was all the bodywork on all Avons is the same! (Very useful) - but we will refund all of your money if you refund the kit.
Good car, shame it is let down by the attrocious bodywork.
Darryl - where are you up to?
I live in Dewsbury, but go to Bury every weekend to drop of my daughter - that's not far from Accrington is it...Especially if I go to have a nosey at Winfields...

The chassis is at rolling stage, loom is in. Basically it's a driveable chassis. The next step is fitting the body, then it should all be downhill from then ( big grin ) If you want a peep give us a U2U.

tractorboy - 1/1/04 at 06:14 PM

avon builder in suffolk/cambs boarder.95% there just ironing out electrical problems and cycle wings to fit then trying to make best of body work.had it running sounds awesome(one of the few bits thats brought a big cheesy grin to my face)hopefully get in MOTed by end of jan. then hopefully sva feb /march Rescued attachment mag_026.jpg

"ps i am a engineer so i should be able to read drawings"

Dave, you could always resort to tigernometry to work it out

DaveFJ - 2/1/04 at 05:23 PM

Looking good 'tractorboy'

u have U2U

dblissett - 2/1/04 at 07:09 PM

hello mark
so now i know which pussy did the "drawings"

keith - 20/7/04 at 08:08 PM

hi,myself & my brother in law are building avon"s both with kawasaki zx9 ninja engines both kawasaki green body work(or should i say tissue paper)they are both running and should be ready for donnington, been on them since march last year. look forward to a bit of banter cheers keith&larry.

andrew.carwithen - 21/7/04 at 08:11 PM

Bought mine second-hand part-built. Basically rolling chassis stage. though I'm having to dismantle and start again. Previous owner seems to have used ally as thin as tissue paper for panelling and has butchered/hacked notorious Avon bodywork - probably in sheer frustration - to get it to fit. Can't decide if its worth repairing or replacing with new body (especially as it's british racing green - not my favourite colour) though I may still end up with same problem of getting it to fit!

Andrew Bause - 24/7/04 at 11:13 PM

Hi All

Have been building my VX 16v Powered AVON since April 04 It's now 90% complete and so far has presented very few problems! Even the bodywork fitted fine. Rescued attachment tiger27 003.jpg

Northy - 25/7/04 at 07:23 AM

I thought mine was the only VX powered Avon

Only joking! Glad there is someone else with taste I'd like to know some more details and see some more pictures!

Cheers

Did you buy a chassis from Tiger ? do you have the illusive 'new' bodywork ? if there is such a thing ? Also what wing mirrors are those ?

Thanks

James

Andrew Bause - 12/8/04 at 12:30 AM

Hi James,

I purchased the body and chassis from Tiger as part of a comprehensive kit and the mirrors were included. Rescued attachment avon.jpg
