scrap value of chassis
luke2152 - 17/8/13 at 07:24 PM

I'm in Germany and trying to get rid of my mx5 donor chassis. The local dismantlers wants me to pay 75 euros to get rid of it even though I'm happy to bring it in on my trailer. Not sure if I should bite the bullet and pay up or try to find somewhere that will take it for free. Surely it must be worth a few £ in scrap value.

I scrapped 2 mx5's in the US, I cut them up into about 6 bits each using a demolition saw and a fire axe. Much easier to get rid of then.

Buy a good demolition saw with the money you'll save from paying to get rid of them

You'd get paid good cash in the UK. Maybe 100 pounds with the engine missing.

I got nearly 200 for my sierra estate chassis inc engine but none of the transmission, drivetrain.

Instead of trying an auto dismantler, try looking for a metal salvage yard. I had a local place here in the USA quote me about 12 cents per pound for a car last year.

For an incomplete car, I just found this scrap dealer quote: Automobiles incomplete .09 per lb (in US dollars)

The last MX5 shell I weighed in at a recycling place I think I got around £45. Just the shell though. Running gear, engine, interior etc was stripped.
