**Update**

The pressure of we anoraks on tinterweb seems to have been effective.

It's now finally called the Sylva J15.
I would be proud to have a car with that name.

Shindig indeed...

Single roll hoop, I doubt that will satisfy MSA regs

mangogrooveworkshop - 20/10/09 at 04:48 PM

or the Sylva shadow

* Shindig!, a '60s American music variety television show
* "Shindig" (Firefly), an episode of the television series Firefly

Now that is one of the worst names I have ever heard for a car... if I bought one and it came with the name 'shindig' on any component, then I'd remove it before the car had its first public outing!

Truly terrible name!

motorcycle_mayhem - 20/10/09 at 05:00 PM

Just came on here to ask about driveshaft experiences, went to this link first.

Jeremy... what are you doing?

Beautiful car, dreadful name.
'Spectre' was far more alluring

I'm still predicting a R1oT when I move house....

Peteff - 20/10/09 at 05:04 PM

Is it because you catch your leg climbing in ?

BenB - 20/10/09 at 05:19 PM

LOL

that's a bad name (and a good joke re the roll bar)

Strange choice!!!

mackei23b - 20/10/09 at 05:19 PM

bad name, great looking car.

Cheers

Ian

P.S. Good job Jeramy has made cars that sold them selves.............he's never been one for marketing!

RichieW - 20/10/09 at 05:30 PM

It's a very strange interior considering the curves of the body. I think it should have been "softened" a bit.

Sylva do like their funny angles though don't they? I suppose they will say it's part of the heritage or something.

scootz - 20/10/09 at 05:32 PM

What's wrong with a single roll hoop? F1 cars have them!

Phil.J - 20/10/09 at 06:12 PM

Perhaps it's me, but I think it's plug ugly!

Not unbraced they don't, but I do wonder why people see a picture of the one car they've made with a single hoop and assume they're all like that - they aren't.

On the subject of names Shindig is rubbish.

Shadow has been used on a car by Rolls Royce and the lawyers will be around again if they try it.

p.s. This link show the reason Spectre will have caused a solicitors letter the quick name change.

What about the Sylva ALawyerToldMeTheGoodNameWasAlreadyTaken

ashg - 20/10/09 at 06:17 PM

cack name really nice looking car

Chet - 20/10/09 at 06:25 PM

Jeremy has confirmed that the single roll bar hoop can be braced similar to the Lotus 19 style.

Other cars have used double roll bar hoop or traditional rectangular braced bar.

oldtimer - 20/10/09 at 06:26 PM

Like the looks, hate the name - really good and low at the back unlike a lot of other rear engine kits out there.

clairetoo - 20/10/09 at 07:00 PM

What a lousy name.............I want one even less now .

rachaeljf - 20/10/09 at 07:05 PM

Strange front-engined looks for a mid-engined car. Lotus 19 lookalike?

Peteff - 20/10/09 at 07:28 PM

What's he got planned next ? I call "Shenanigans"
HERE

StevieB - 20/10/09 at 07:28 PM

What ws wrong with Spectre. I liked that name.

I like the car too, and if I ever build one then I'm going to get a name badge made up to say "Sylva Spectre" as there's no way it's getting called a Shindig in my garage!

Another company has already register the name as a trademark for a car.

Though interestingly the filing date is after the sylva was launched.

Seriously though.
How funny would that be.
An MK Indy with a turbocharged Hayabusa being sold on ebay, only it hasn't been SVA'd, it's actually running on the V5 from a Dutton Hootennanny.

P.S. Has anyone seen the new short wheelbase car from the makers of the Vortx ?

The MNR Knees - up ?...

iscmatt - 20/10/09 at 11:19 PM

Oh FFS, you're having a laugh right ?

Shindig Shadows
The music does fit the era the car is associated with.

kennyrayandersen - 21/10/09 at 10:45 PM

Chet,
I'm really not sure about how the word Shindig is perceived in the UK, but I speak with some authority about how it will be received in the US -- like a fart in an elevator. I'm pretty sure you know this. And I know you are trying to make Jeremy not feel so conflicted about the name, but the poll here pretty much says it all. If you were clever, which I suspect that you are, you will quietly, without any fanfare, just name it something different in the States -- it won't be that big of a deal, but it will make a lot of difference in the marketing of the car in the States. I WANT you to succeed and I'm guessing you're not into economic suicide yourself, so...

Please, give us some details on what you have intended for the car in the States. Don't make the same mistake yourself -- get some feedback from people who are actually of a mind to buy the car in the first place. First off you know that guys from the US that are following this now are you first customers and are infinitely more aware of Jeremy's work that the rest of the populace -- it is going to be easier to sell us the car than any other group of people in the country. After us, there is a lot of convincing to do. With that in mind -- were all ears

P.S. watched the video. I'm 50 and couldn't make it through -- it won't have anything at all to do with the car -- especially in the States as no one has heard of the Shadows anyway.
