Hi below is an email from someone who is interested in my car,

Question is what would you do don't use pay pal so not sure how safe it is etc

kindly get back to me with your pay pal email address so i can proceed
with the payment and after the payment has been made and confirmed, i
have a pick up agent that will come around to inspect and pick the car
up after i have made the payments for the item.Would be happy if you
could remove the ads from the site and once am provided with your
paypal email address i will send in payment.



Sounds like a foreign person by the email, I have sold cars abroad before but very stressful I must say,

Any advice welcome especially on pay pal and how secure it is etc ,

Was reading that and remember reading exactly the same before somewhere, especially the "I work at sea as an oceanographer" bit, avoid like the plague.

Has scam written all over it. They often use fake paypal sites that say you've recieved the funds, when you log into the official paypal site there's nothing in your account. I had it happen with a mobile phone I was selling. The story is a good one though, what is he studying? Floating turds?

i get them simular ones alot from people who are travellers for what ever reason as soon as i put a big item on ebay...

paypal accounts get hacked and you ship car then paypal ask for money back and your screwed.....

if they want to pay you by western union then you can get the cash in your hand and then send car but NEVER USE paypal to receive money as if its a nicked card/account they will get the money back.

westernunion OFFERS NO REFUNDS NO PROTECTION so if you get the cash in ye hand its safe and yours....

How about he pay the "pick up agent" by paypal. And then the "Pick up agent" can bring the cash when he comes to collect the car?

I have a mate who is an Oceanograhper.....he works in an office! Not sure that many Oceanographers actually go out on boats except for the odd experiment perhaps....

I had exactly the same email, word for word regards my sale - think he's been working down the for sale lists on pistonheads and evo

Looks like a scam to me! A friend of mine had a similar email when selling his car.

Have some fun with him her. My mate did and it was quite entertaining!

Had about 6 of them when i had my xc90 for sale on autotrader, i found it quite amusing to keep replying asking them to explain stupid things, such as what is a paypal ? then asked them to park their boat at hull, ring me when docked and i would take the car to them.....got some quite insulting replies in the end !!
