Paypal scam, yep another one

Just a quick heads up,

No doubt the more computer literate of you would not come as close as I did to following the link, and I have no idea what would happen if I had done but I got this email, which is quite clever in some ways

From: Resolution Center [mailto:lnfo@97814.ppsecure.com]
Sent: 17 December 2009 13:57
To: undisclosed-recipients:
Subject: Your paypal access has been limited

There was a load of content which won't copy onto here but basically it said that a number of failed attempts from different IP addresses had been made to log into my account

anyway, its a scam, lord knows what it does but if you get one then bin it!

Worthwhile anyone who has their email address on any website, including this one, taking it off promptly before that address gets 'crawled' by a robot spamm address gathering program.

Much better to write your email address in words that are not easily recognisable by a program, but which make sense to a human, such as
nyname at mymailaddress.whatever

The idea is that you try to log on to the website thinking that it is really paypal. You enter your username and password and hit go then guess what? it will give an error message but your username and password are then recorded so they can then log into your account and spend all your money on bits for their cars

Damn , rumbled again - there goes my Christmas bonus

Just look at the sender email address. PPsecure is a phishing website. Fake front pages for Windows live and paypal, to name a few. Mookaloid is right, you click the link, which takes you to a fake page where you enter your details, which are then recorded.

Also, even the most basic crawler can now parse a "nyname at mymailaddress.whatever", afterall the searching algorithm is looking for pattern, its not hard to grab the info with slightly different grammar. Hell you can do it with google

Email Parsing with Google Search

Edited the link ^^

Been getting millions of those recently, but all from banks - most of which I dont have accounts with in the first place. Depending on your email program, when you hover over the link, a text bar will show you the address the link will take you too, and it will be obvious it's not genuine. If you follow the link you'll be able to see the site is not secure, etc. I normally fill in the boxes with 'die you scum' and stuff like that for immature fun.
