Miles off topic..... Wedding First Dance Suggestions
bigbravedave - 24/2/11 at 12:43 PM

With the big day looming in 2 weeks we are yet decide on the first dance (not that im to fussed!) but all the ideas I’ve had have been demoted to the background music! We've been to Glasto the last 6 years, shes into her motown/soul but can we find ouwt that isn't immensely cheesy or cliché, yep its that bad I've posted a dancing question in a car forum!

Me and my better half got married September just gone so this topic is still fresh!!

We had Florence's version of You've got the love. The main problem was that we decided this before the long got released and milk for eveernote and penny. So by the time it came to our wedding it was over played but we did not care, it was our song!

I would say just to pick a song that means alot to you. You can edit the song before hand so its only the good bits or get your best man and bridesmaids to come onto the dance floor half way through the song if you feel self concious.

I am loving Adele's new album and especially the song someone like you. Its an incrediable tear jurking song that would get your guests going! It reminds me of my wife when I hear it and often I well up!!

It will be the best day off your life regardless of song. The only people that will remember the song will be you two so make sure its special for you.

Good luck on the big day. Try and take time aside for the two of you to relax and reflect. Blink and you will miss it!!

liam.mccaffrey - 24/2/11 at 01:10 PM

We had "have I told you lately" by van morrison and I regret it. Neither of us could agree and we ended up having a song we didn't really like.

I wish we'd have had "Thunder Road" by Bruce Springsteen or "He wants You" by Nick Cave

One of my favourites though and my favourite love song ever is "I hope that I don't fall in love with you" by Tom Waits

I don't like following the crowd ever and thats exaclty what we did for our song

nick205 - 24/2/11 at 01:38 PM

TBH I can't even remember what ours was, I was well on the way by the time we started dancing.

Best one I heard to date was a mate and his new wife who (jointly) chose Smack My Bitch Up by The Prodigy. Caused much amusement amongst the younger guests and considerable distaste amongst the older guests

adrianreeve - 24/2/11 at 01:48 PM

Neither me or my wife are any good at dancing, so we wanted something that was fun, quick and short! We went with 'can't take my eyes off you' by Andy Williams, and really enjoyed it!

Cheers

Adrian

Wedding Song Suggestions......

HTH

MikeR - 24/2/11 at 05:07 PM

I'd love to see someone dance to tenacious d's "f**k her gently" - although its HIGHLY inappropriate and definately not safe for work.

What about "what do you get when you fall in love?" (can't remember who by) - again comedy suggestion - but far more safe for old people / work.

Sorry, i'm not much help

Davegtst - 24/2/11 at 05:13 PM

We had Lonestar Amazed. Apparently it was 'our song'.

zilspeed - 24/2/11 at 05:25 PM

I'll hold my hand up at this point and admit to being a mostly retired function band musician.

Yes, I was that man.

You name a slushy song, I've played it.

My favourite way of relieving the boredom was to change the words.

"So when I'm lying in my bed, with my pants on my head, and I feel love is dead, I'm loving angels instead, etc."

Followed by unneccesarily double length Gilmour inspired solo.

You've got to make it bearable.

James - 24/2/11 at 05:36 PM

I Hate You So Much Right Now by Kelis?

We had 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' by Aretha Franklyn.

Just a thought, like, if you're into Soul....

McLannahan - 24/2/11 at 07:36 PM

We had Elbow - One day like this. My choice!

franky - 24/2/11 at 07:50 PM

Sir Mixalot "I like big butts"

sebastiaan - 24/2/11 at 08:44 PM

Let's stick together by Brian Ferry. Very applicable lyrics if you decide to get married in church as well!

bigbravedave - 24/2/11 at 08:59 PM

Thanks a million guys, thats a pretty awsome list, been in stiches over some of them!

think we're settled on jackie wilson sweetest feeling as it ticked the motown upbeat without dodgy lyrics boxes, had a quick look on line and most folk seem to pick really chilled sincere stuff.

red22 - 24/2/11 at 10:56 PM

You and Me by the Wannadies.

Very good choice We had a singer/DJ at our wedding called the Soul Man. He sung all this kind of stuff, was the best entertainer i have ever seen. Good luck on the big day.

We had:

but this might be more fitting as a first song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC04ZZploBE

And bewfore that gives the impression we are old - It was my wifes choice and it was only 3 years ago and she was 23 at the time!
