If i were to buy a second hand, kit car/locost with say a pinto engine in, how much would it cost to convert to a motor bike engine.
Reading some posts the old honda fireblade (893cc)engine seems a good buy.
Parts needed i think
bike engine
prop adaptor
prop
loom off bike
bike pump
engine cradle
manifold and exhaust silencer

Any other things i need to consider

You should u2u dangle_kt as he is doing a blade conversion to his locost.

Why not just go for a ready made BEC?? Add up the price of all the parts needed and add it to a Car Engined car. You might be better just going straight for one ready made. Could end up replacing more than you think to get diff ratio's etc right

Side Panel - exhaust may exit opposite side - unless your not fussy how it looks.
Gear Selector Mechanics
Chassis modding to suit - whatever engine - engine mounts.


Earplugs
Plenty of underwear

8. Complete Gear change setup (Lever, rocker and rods OR cable change - both needing brackets)
9. Changes to the chassis (potentially ie cutting out of chassis legs if the exhaust wants to go throught the side and also some way of mounting your prop)
10. Diff fuel line (Potentially)
11. Different Ratio Differential Potentially)

It depends on what level of performance you are after, for example I got a set of westfield megablade headers 2nd hand, they are known for not being the free-est flowing out there, but the highest possible BHP is not the aim for me, its about doing at a reasonable cost.

If I had blown loads on super high performance parts then I wouldn't be able to pay steve (worx) to do the majority of the install for me. I'd prefer to be driving a car with 98% of the performance in a few months rather than saving up for another year to achieve the last 2%.

I imagine, if you were careful and had a similar attitude to me on performance (and did all the work yourself) you could do a full install for £1k - ish. If you are a begginer like me, then expect that to be a bit more as you have to get stuff done for you.

depending on the part built you buy for the conversion, you could get a very tasty bec for not much cash... or you could jump straight in a working one, without any of the head scratching for a few grand more.

Where abouts in North West are you, if your near Chorlry i could possibly get the owner of my old My Indy Blade to take you out for a spin, infact anyone around this area would probably like the chance to give you a brown trouser moment, .
