Hi,
Trying to source a pulley to go with the Retro Ford alternator mounting kit.
Retro Ford sell the following pulley to match... bit expensive though
http://www.retro-ford.co.uk/shop/node/213
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative that will work?
Cheers,
Liam
+1. Clearly a (future) problem area.
I made my own from a beetle alternator pulley, but, finding a pulley say a fiver, and another fiver post, then a couple of high speed bearings,
probably another tenner with post, machining and fabricating time and cost, £37 isn't that bad.
Unless you can get something bolt on, I think I'd go with the retro ford item, if I were doing another zetec.
I think I ended up getting one from a Transit Connect- but it was a home brew alternator mounting based on the Retro Ford one. I can't remember the exact model/part number, but a quick search on the GSF website should find you something suitable.
I used a Mercedes one:
MERCEDES SPRINTER /VITO/VIANO V RIBBED BELT TENSIONER PULLEY 6112000570
However you will need a bolt from the merc (or a similar) as it has a wide opening (12mm iirc) and the bolt has a thicker waist.
I got mine from a scrapyard when I went hunting for suitable pulleys, took the used pulely and bolt to trial it, and then replaced the pulley with a
new one.

I doubt it matters. Providing it has enough ribs, (most do), it fits on the mount/bolt (diameter), and you have suitable bolt/washer arrangement, any pulley will do.
Just checked through my files and realised it is in fact this one I purchased - it has an m8 hole the bolt would be easy to get hold of without any
spacer.
