Tiger avon book
has anyone read the build your own 'tiger avon' book..... is it worth it? rate it to the locost from ron champions book? cheers all.

I recieved the book last week and have had a quick flick through. Good if you would like to build i.r.s chassis!
It is a bit more up to date and is built around the sierra completly but still leaves out a few bits and is a little sketchie but for the cash well
worth it!
Anyway who wants building a car to be easy?

The book came in the post on friday from Amazon, they took 5 weeks to get it to me. I wanted to see the book before starting my project as, for me,
the use of more up to date donor parts is preferable to using the almost unobtainable Mk2 Escort.
The book is very similar to Ron's, but the chassis section is more basic, a (very complete)set of drawings and a whole heap of photo's, and assumes
much more engineering knowlege.
The one thing I did not like is the chassis design for the IRS and rear suspension. The diff is supported be 4 bits of flat bar which are butt welded
to the rear bulkhead, there is no triangulation for any of the rear wishbones. It looks like the front and rear end were designed by different
people.
Much of the book is used to plug other Tiger products (shock!)but overall it is worth the money, and has given me loads of new ideas for my project.

is it a case of the locost phenomoem in reverse instead of companys doin the hard stuff from the book i.e mk lolocost luego etc etc
someone (avon) has designed the parts but needs people to buy them
just a thought

Yes alot of how to buy a tiger rather than how to build one - slight con!
The book is a bit like new labour all style and no content.
Its very glossy and well presented but at the expense of on actual info to do the job.
There are many pointless pages -- big section on glass fibre work and moulds - which is useless as most buy these bits, Sec on Owning a Tiger!!!! [I
wanted a practical build book not a coffee table book.]
I bought the book for sierra based dims etc as Rons was escort / cortina based.
only to find the tiger still uses cortina uprights and other bits. The bike engine section relevant for me is also lacking - lots of nice pictures but
NO dimensions other than one for props. No discussion of engine types merits dry sumps etc rather poor.
There are good colour drawings of the chassis although slightly small and measured to a 10th of a mil !!!! CAD slip up I assume. There aren't any
full 3D drawings of the completed chasis although theres lots of good colour photos of it from various angles.
Also the book is SOFT back unlike Rons - I assumed for £20 it would be different!
Anyway its not all bad and does have all the dims for the IRS which is what I wanted including fabricated rear uprights.
There are also other useful stuff in there. Question and answer section is very good but should be twice as big.

Fraid not shock bracket is at top and attachment to both wishbones is via long bolt running width of hub carrier.

After a wait of a month and paying a whopping 37 Euros, I must say that I rushed to the bookstore only two hours ago, so my findings are a bit
fresh.
What I like is:
It's IRS detailed plan.
The hint to use the uprights of the Sierra.
The quality of the pics.
What I dislike is:
The fact that there are no angles to most of the non square tubes.
A lot of parts are difficult to make for an amateur.
I don't intend (who did anyway) to make my own GRP body panels.
Overall verdict: Buy it

Yes theres a big section on it - from tools materials and making plywood moulds. Its a bit thin on dims for locost - pics etc are from single seater

Just Recieved my book, definatly worth buying, dissapointed about no cutting list and angles but its worth the challenge having allready built a RC
type chassis. I thought that the body looked good and worth £380.
Tiger will sell you all the lazer cut parts for uprights, wishbones etc.
