Avon / GTA Gearbox option

Well finally settled on a gearbox today for the new incaarnation of good old 99, Getrag G260, commonly found in BMW's ours is from a 525. Its a tight squeeze but will take all that we caan throw at it hopefully whereas the type 9 was a worry for our new engine choice...

and a bargain at £110, cheaper than i have seen type 9 boxes for recently. We also bought our engine :-)

Same box that I'm using in my Haynes. I'm setting mine right back to fit in the BM 6 pot so had to alter the chassis a bit

FYI - if you turn the gearstick assembly through 180deg and mount it off the chassis instead of the box it works a treat and the stick falls to hand

interesting, is the end connected to the chassis rubber bushed? if not what will happen when the gearbox moves? What bushes are those youve used to mount the box?

The rear mounting point is rubber bushed but the front is currently solid mounted. I may alter this to a rubber bobbin though. I'm hoping the engine / box won't be moving much at all as it's on 4 very stiff Land Rover engine mounts and will probably be getting an engine steady bar too

So what engine are you going with to power the box?

Volvo T4 1.9, stronger than the 2 litre as the liners are thicker, and the grand total of £175. Now looking for T4 dry sump kit or may have to make our own, Going to upgrade our ECU from the current brand new and unused DTA S40 (UP For sale shortly if anyone is interested) to the S60 as it supports full VVT control, easier than disabling the VVT. Next part is to join the gearbox and engine before dropping it in for making the engine mounts. Going to get TTv to make a custom flywheel and convert from cable to hydraulic clutch.
