Advice Reqd

I'm thinking of buying an Avon. In order to get to a rolling chassis are these all the parts I need. I'm no mechanical expert so fully expect this list to be added to which is my best guess taken from the Tiger Web page. Thanks in advance for your help.

Fully Independent Tiger Chassis X 1
Box of Donor Parts (Tiger Supplied) X 1
Bottom Wishbones X 4
Top Wishbones X 4
Shocks & Springs X 4
Suspension Bushes X 20
Escort Re-Con Steering Rack X 1
Wheels X 4
Ali Sheet for Panels

Also, Can the Avon be fitted with Full Weather Gear?

Can Cobra Style Roll Bars be fitted?
Has anyone fitted a Toyota 4 Age Engine like in the Raw Engineered Stryker?
Any Avon Owners near Cirencester, Gloucs?

Check out Chester sports cars,s Avon. The chassis is not worth having powder coating in my opinion, ours was and various brackets had to be 'eased' causing cracking of the coating. Our Avon does have the twin hoops a la the B6 model. The body is none too brilliant either. Considering we spent £5350 on a comprehensive kit, it has been a very expensive lesson, but I will see it built. Just wish it was an MK though!

thought i would add my 2 peenys worth, i know jack sh!t about the tiger avon but about powder coating i would not bother. if it cracks it will flake off and also if that happens rust will form and spread under the coating.

Im going to prime and paint mine to a gloss finish, this way i can put thin coats on brackets where needed, also its cheaper (locost spirit)

Cheers

Have a look around at others' posts who've done an Avon. I can only think of one person who's said they're happy as opposed to several who said it's complete crap.
If you're are spending as much money as Longlife then you're got a lot of scope for a fantastic MK Indy or maybe a Luego (not sure of Luego's pricing).
Check out:

In fact for that money I'd have thought you could maybe do a bike engined MKIndy.

Luego have an open day soon (this weekend???) and MK are open to visitor's too.

HTH,

James

The Avon's not that bad, really.

Anyway, to answer your question, I wouldn't get the donor pack from Tiger, I have heard bad things about it. If you've got room, buy a Sierra, it'll be cheaper and you'll get chance to drive it and see if anything is fu**ed.

I got mine powder coated and its not built yet and Im having to rub down and paint bits . hind sight and i'd have done it in
acid etch primer followed by primer and good quality top coat.

Im in North East Bristol and building an Avon.

regarding ally panels. I suggest you buy it direct from Durbins of Yate. its £15 for a 2x1M sheet.

If you need a part number let me know and Ill have a look as I have the Tiger bits.

I wouldn't get the "comprehensive" kit either. Many other parts are cheeper elsewhere. which will get the overall build price down.
I totted up all the costs to get my Blade engined Avon on the road and twas just under £5k. Admittedly I have spent more on upgrades since, but thats half the fun of it. I'm biased, but I would go for a bike engine as in the long run I think they work out cheaper.....awaits incoming flak.

Ditto- don't bother with Tiger's donor pack.
Have heard of a few buyers being disgruntled with the 'roadworthiness' of the parts-especially their engines.
If you haven't got room to strip a Sierra yourself, then the req'd parts can be readily sourced on ebay/local scrappies/freeads etc.
Other items to add to your list are a wiring loom, clocks, seats etc.
Also as you live in Gloucester, why not join the South West Tiger Owners Club at www.swtoc.co.uk?
There's a full list of members and location map to help with proximity of fellow builders to yourself. (I'm pretty sure that there is a member who, has indeed fitted a 4age engine in an Avon.)There is also a link to our own Yahoo! discussion forum.
We have several meets throughout the year and can be an invaluable source of information/tips for your build should you attend.
If you haven't done so already, I would also register with the main Tiger forum at www.tigerownersclub.co.uk, which, again, has another discussion forum.
