Fiat 124 Ball Joint
this photo seems to confirm the use of a Fiat 124 ball joint with the Cortina upright in a Tiger Avon.
I went in a shop that have some of that ancient material, but they asked to me what 124's ball joint is needed, upper or lower.
in fact, by the look in the drawings I saw in that shop, they seems to be almost equal.
so, wich 124's ball joint is used in the Tiger, upper or lower?

Really? Most use either the Cortina or the lower Maxi swivel....

that pic shows a Tiger Avon, and also a Cortina upright,
but that lower ball joint is not for sure from a Cortina neither from a Maxi, this last has only 2 bolts.

And yes they are FIAT 124 spider.
I use the lower. it si surely designed for it.
Only it has a spring in it. The upper don't.
So free choose there.

I thought it was from the normal Fiat 124. are they different from the Spider?

contina taunus ball-joint:
15.40 degrees
fiat 124:
top: 15,00 degrees (OEM 415 01 78)
bottom: 15,00 degrees (OEM 410 48 63)
fiat argenta:
top: 14,80 degrees
bottom: 15,00 degrees (OEM 410 48 63)
fiat 125 and 132
top: 14,80 degrees
bottom: 15,00 degrees (OEM 588 07 95)
All bottom joints are aftermarketed by SIDEM under no: 19183
BTW:
Sierra bottom: 14,00 degrees
Seirra 4x4 bottom: 17,00 degrees
Transit tie rod end
AVON: M20x1,50 RHT 15,50 degr (OEM- 1 481 651)
UNCLE RON: M18,5x1,50 RHT 15,50 degr (OEM 1 796 516)
upper balljoint cortina 15,40 degr. (OEM 6 010 076)
If thinking about porsche 911 bottom : 17,20 degrees.
No 124 spider?....no diverence there i think (hope ;-) )

may be in Tiger they modify in the lathe the upright in a way to correct that 0.4 degrees.
BTW: do you know the Austin Maxi taper?

That 0.40 isn't the problem, just fasten tight.
No maxi in my book.
Only (R)over group
Maxi 1969-1981 MArina 1972-1980 ITAL 1980-1985
lower king pin set 14,40 degr but no balljoint i think. (OEM GSJ 167)

BTW
I have seen someone using a TOYOTA LITE ACE upright maybe availble around there?
up: 15,30 degr (maybe FORD's tie rod fits!)
down >10/1982 (4 bolts): 16,80 degr
down <09/1982 (3 bolts): 15,30 degr
Maybe you could check if it is useable!

I have two more pairs of Cortina uprights and still have an eye in some I use to see arround. its like an addiction to see amoung old cars where can
have a Cortina/Taunus
