"Don't Rivet where you get in and out of the car"

I've just noticed this dire warning in the build manual, having just put a nice line of rivets in to an ali panel at the side of the car - under the sill where you get in and out. A couple go in to the chassis member beneath, most are just in to the ali and the GRP.

I can;t see why this is a problem - rivet holes in that chassis member should be fine and can't see why not to drill the body there - anybody else thought the same?

thanks

I would guess that warning is more so you don't have rivits where you put your hands, legs etc. incase of catching yourself...

I cannot think of any reason otherwise!

To be honest, I cant see a few rivet's in that location, doing any harm.

Although I am builing a Roadster. It'll have it fair share of rivnuts inserted in the chassis.

Have avdell gun and not affraid to use it !!

rivets

All of the locost build as described in the original "build your own" sports car will have rivets all the way down both side of the cockpit to secure the aluminium panels, the R1ot also does the same but covers with some trim.

Aim sure most have been done this was and the ones with internal panels must be riveted/screw/bolted can't see any issues.

Don't mention rivets to DaveFJ - he's got aircraft-grade, double-row rivets all over his Tiger chassis!

(Only kidding Dave...)

the reason you shouldn't put rivets along the diagonal round tubes is that the Avon bodywork has a lip which wraps over this and is a b*gger to fit anyway without adding rivvet heads!

I riveted mine in that way and had a nightmare fitting the body, I ended up having to sand away little groves on the inside of the lip to line up with each rivet head!!!

If however you are talking about riveting through the GRP into the diagonal tube then I think that it is more to do with passing the SVA... I think you might need to cover the heads with some padding...
