I think mine is about 2 inches, which is only about 50 mm, so If you are worried I am 20 mm more worried

Thanks

Hi Rudy,

Mine is almost the same, 75 mm.
I've lifted the engine as high as possible, my TB's just don't touch the engine cover.
I've put an Ertalon piece between the engine mount and the frame

My zetec sump (1800) is about the same, the main depth is on the axle though so it rises with speed bumps......i do have to be carefull though.
I'm planning a sump mod later in the year if not sooner to make the sump pan level with the bell house on the gearbox. Rescued attachment sump 72mm clearance.jpg

The Zetec I bought [and haven't fitted yet] is from a 2000 Focus and as standard, the sump looks about as low as it could be - i.e pretty much level with the bellhousing.

Is there any reason why people don't use this sump instead of modifying one - I guess as it is designed for FWD it may not have baffles in the right place.

The 2000 focus engine is a different engine from the mondeo/escort zetec.

It may be, but not in any way that matters as far as I can tell [other than that the sump being shorter].

It is just a black top Zetec, not a duratec.

I've got 90mm under the sump but only by making the front of the car ride quite high by having lots of preload on the front shocks.... Makes the car a little skittish...

Trouble is Norf London is splattered with speed bumps and they don't seem to have read the regulations very well. I'm actually quite tempted to go and measure one particular bump- I'm sure its more like 140mm high.... Grrrrrrr.....

Oh well, my winter project is a dry sump system (once I've saved up enough dough for the Pace pump).... Then I can drop the front of the car by about 30mm and keep the 90mm clearance....

Thankyou,
so my hight is on average. I am using regular mondeo inlet manifold ,if I use 4 trottle bodyes I could rise up the engine 15mm without cut the bonnet, however for the moment I will do nothing.

Rudy,

I has similar problems. I hasd a 1.8 Escort Sump. Have just had it shortened by Avondale Welding 01454 228889. The syump is now 150mm deep but retains the same volume of oil. he used the old bottom at the back as a baffle. I have pictures in my section. Hope this helps.

Your sump looks nice.
I already use a "shortened" sump, but there is little leaks, so I am thinking to build another (better) and a little "short"
