Rear Body Height
Hi,
I've just bought a part built Avon and the rear body section seems to sit above the bar which the seatbelts & rollbars fit on by about 10mm
is this normal?
I did wonder if the lip on the back section by the fuel tank should have been set underneath the chassis rather than above?

It is normal. Or better : it is not normal but ALL the avon is like yours.

There's a shed load of build pics here which may help http://www.avon-kitcar.co.uk/ - especially the last couple of pics in the bodywork section
. Looks flush to me and i would imagine you are right in that the lip goes under the chassis (although i am building a B6 not an Avon)

The rear of my bodywork sits under the bar, but it's still a bit less than 10mm above the horizontal bar with the seatbelts. I bought a square
U section aluminium channel and fixed it to that bar to fill in the gap, since I'm covering the whole back with a sheet of ali.

Looking at the pics on http://www.avon-kitcar.co.uk it seems to have the same problem.
What's the idea of extending the wheel arches?

Just looking at the pics on Pauls link. Very good series of pic's. Also made me think how much easier it would have been to build a kit

Most avons seem to have one wheel arch wider than the other, or at least the earlier ones. Youll also probably find about an inch gap along your
bonnet at one side, and the contour of you side panels is different on each side at the front. Thats the main probs with the bodywork ive come

Yea, 10mm is same on mine. I have my rear bodywork riveted to the underside of the lip...

I have the rear riveted above the rear lip to try and make the rear arches seem more even around the wheel. And my bodywork is also about 10mm above
the crossmember.
basically "they're all like that guv!"
I am intending to try to make some sort of cover to hide the mounting plate of the roll bar and should hopefully sit more or less level with the
surrounding bodywork...

1st of all thanks for all your responses guys.
Does anyone know if there's a boot moulding available, I'm sure I've seen one of the 7 style cars with one?

I don't beleive that there are any commercially available, however i know that at least some owners have made their own.. You may find someone
on here who has made one and still has the buck available.. failing that it is a fairly simple shape to make...
That being said I am intending to just make a plywood L shape (covered in carpet) to drop in leaving the body tub rear and sides to form the rest of
the box....

I've made a simple box out of ali. The back of the car is covered in sheet ali also, with a cutout that will have folded-in vertical sides for
the bootbox to fix to, so it;'s removable
