OT - Changing file types

I need to make a dvd of our holiday for the grandparents but movie maker doesnt accept .VOB file types (the type the camera records on).

I understand that these can just be renamed as .mpeg but when i went to do it, the files dont have the extension on the end like they normally do. Then i found that no files on my pc do. Im sure it must just be an unticked box or something (normally is).

Does anyone know what i need to do?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

my computer, drop down tools menu, folder options, view tab, uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'

probably.....

Right click Start Button and select Explore.
Go to Tools/Folder Options/View in the top bar and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'
that should do it

I would have though you could just burn the vob files to cd or dvd and it'll play in the dvd player, I know it won't play on your pc unless you have a dvd decoder installed.

Not sure how the renaming plan will work Nowt to lose though!

Looks like your plan will work LINKY TRAINING

Cheers

Transcode the VOB files to something movie maker will handle (like MPEG) using videolan player.
